Tigers will fight for Benji: Potter

Whoever advised Benji is not doing him a favour, unless he knows something that none of us know, that is grab whatever Benji can, because his playing days are over soon.Benji is negotiating from a position of weakness as he is playing like a park player, not the NRL. He makes too many errors, taken too many wrong options, played too slow, doesn't partcipate well in the games, don't make any line breaks, doesn't tackle well, jumper grabbing… all in, a sore sight. He needs to reverse all these before he start talking about money.Perhaps he is in comfort zone and lives and behaves like a millionaire, do not want his hands to get dirty, do not think, live and play like a footballer anymore. He is in a different world of his own.I can understand all that, but it is difficult for the club. What do we do with other players in the team? How do we pay them, on merits or on their demand like Benji. Benji should understand, there is only that much, if he doesn't perform, we have to pay someone that will, that is how the game is played. Currenly Benji is not performing, the money paid to him has not make any return.Best Benji weigh up himself, is he giving anything in return currently. When Bebji was injured, the club has been carrying him all these years or has he forgotten that already? Best Benji retire now if he is too slow for the game now, accident prone and unable to performbest anymore. He has a future in the media whilst he has all this goodwill with the West Tigers and the support we have for him. To do anything contrary to this is to throw away everything he has earned in the past and be known as a money grabbing no good, blugger, hanger on, a burden to his team mates, losing us games and has his head screwed on the wrong way. Benji has brought everything to the limelight what he is doing by asking for an extension and and upgrade. Shame on him and his adviser as he is destroying all his goodwill that he has earned at the West Tigers.

Benji says he will never play against The Tigers , the reason for that will be that no other club will pay way overs like we do

Eh, sounds like Warriors offered him plenty. How much is Sandow on? When a club gets desperate for a half, they'll pay whatever it takes.

That said, if Marshall still has two years on his current contract, you'd think he'd want to negotiate an extension after he plays a few good games in a row. Always helps your cause.

Personally I would ice the discussion of the two year extension until mid next year but give Benji his upgrade for 2014-15 as per his contract.

I honestly think that Benji should be allowed to show his true potential WITH A REAL HALFBACK. Benji's biggest problem is when he tries to do too much and doesn't play his natural game - he isn't an organising halve. Never will be and lets face it folks, he will always have mistakes in his game

. Let's have Brooks debut and have half a season with Benji outside him and see how they go. Not sure how Moses is going to NYC but doesn't sound to be as dominant as Brooks - so lets see how he develops as well.

We shouldn't be rushing a decision when there is no need to do it.

Beni is a nice young man, but a man that is so full of himself, trhat he has a lot of growing up to d😵n the footy show he made out that the West Tigers management had not honour what was awarded to him.If he wishes to command a super pay, then he must be expected to deliver everytime he put on his boots.Sad to say he has not been professional the least. I would have gladly granted what he wishes if he can played the game to win us matches.Instead once again, week in and week out he took the wrong option and regularly made unforced error. He is so well known for not finding touch, that he made the same error again to night by not finding touch in a penalty awarded, which turned ou to be the turning point of the match. He is also ahead of himself in the media stakes. If I were him I would start winning some matches first and made less errors and let his boots do the talking in the football field, instead of having a runnaway motor mouth. He should be making his dole in the media instead of demanding it from football which he hadn't delivered. The way he carries on, he would lose whatever he had with the West tigers in terms of admiration and respect. The best he can do now is to concentrate on his football and nothing else, if football is his first choice. Like I said, if union is offering him $1 million, good luck to the union and good luck to him. We have other players to look after that delivered and dependent on the income the footballers bring home.We cannot afford to look after Benji alone and letting him lose us matches through silly mistakes of his.Nothing personal Benji, just as I see it, like I said you are a nice young man and nothing more till you make a name for yourself. Please earn it and not demand it.

well said and i agree with you 100%… i will go one more step and say what you probably are trying not to say- he cares about himself and how he looks like to other people ONLY. not sure where that attitude comes from, but to me that is the reality for sure.

Well said. I believe that Benji was idolised too soon in his career, and he has not been able to live up to his potential as a player.
I too think that he should stop talking to anyone that will listen, stop bagging his club, and play good footy, and start living up to his purported potential, at the moment it's all just rubbish, and quite embarassing for us to see this fall from grace from someone who could have been great (maybe) :exclamation:

I have a theory that a decision on Benjis future beyond 2015 has already been made, and all parties are doing their best to put positives spins on the outcome, If Benji uses the argument that the club reneged on an original agreement to extend it justifies a reason to look elsewhere as he feels he was let down. If the Club views the situation that it wants to look after their up and coming stars then it justifies its decision not to consider any extensions till closer to 2015\. In the mean time The Coach has to be seen to be working encouraging Benji to overcome poor form when in reality Benji has probably created this situation by worrying more about his future than his game. He has a big lifestyle commitment that needs to be matched after 2015 so I can understand why he needs to be trying to get this sorted out now. Unfortunately is it a case of now putting the cart in front of the horse?. For those of us in the workforce we get paid for results and outcomes for our employers not because we simply turn up at the job I am a 20 year veteran at my current work and I know there would be a tap on my shoulder if I was there just to collect my pay because of "loyalty", let alone ask what I want to be paid two years from now or expecting my job still to be even there then. So whichever way the cards fall now, I think all sides will look for a win win situation to save face and to settle this soon otherwise the next 2 years will be a very long time coming. Then again I could be wrong…......

Yep. If the club had decided to let him go, best to talk about how much you want to keep him in the interim. If they've decided to keep him, best to wait until he's playing decent footy before it's announced.

Surely it's not that hard to find some way of saying that there is no extension for now, but we'll certainly be keen to discuss at the end of 2014.
