Tim Lafai

So is Farah, Ballin, Cherrington and Dean H all going to be in the 17?
I also was puzzled when we signed Ballin (as good as he is) it seems like we were just helping Manly out to fit Taupau into there cap. Unless Farah had 100% signed with another team, we would have been better off going for a walk up starter in the centre position, like Lafai .

Why did he sign if he was going to be 3rd choice hooker?

Word is that we're paying him $300,000 a year - pretty sure that could have been spent better if Farah stays.

We're paying him? I imagine that Manly would be paying most of the fare for him.

If only we could off load a player from the top 25 and have another Club take up say 400K of his salary we might be able to have a crack at Lafai with some change left over…

If only you could understand the concept of honouring a contract.

This type of small time thinking will keep the club at the bottom of the table. At a club not renowned for its depth in fast outside backs, Lafai is being offloaded for Hopoate who has not produced the form he once had prior to his departure.

Lafai was signed till 2017 and asked for a release…Plenty of Dogs fans upset with this 'trade'....

Oh and honouring contracts that's a laugh coming from the king of the sack Taylor Club..I believe he has a contract..Would you not be happy for that contract not to be honoured...?

Let the Dogs be upset, we've had enough of marginal NRL players.

I believe it has been patiently explained to you and the other Taylor fan boys the salary of the coach is not included in the salary cap. Taylor being paid out and sent packing is in the best interests of this club. And as I have stated on many occasion, pay Farah out his 2.1m or more owing if you want him gone.

 A contract is a contract. You can't have it both ways, either honour both or neither, you can't make a statement and then attach addendum to it to justify your argument when you get hammered for being a hypocrite.

Yes you are correct Coaches and Admin staff come out of the operational cost of the Wests Tigers and not the salary cap therefore if the Coach was sacked you would not only have to cover that cost but I'd assume the new Coach wouldn't be doing it for free and if was a better Coach I would think it would cost more than the existing coach effectively you would be costing you double + out of your bottom line for a Coach…not a very financially sound decision...

Whereas if you can shift a player on and have another Club pick up part of the salary you then have that to spend in your salary cap on another player with zero impact on your bottom line ie operational cost...

P.S. I never mentioned Farah..there are others on our roster and in our salary cap that have been asked to look elsewhere...

I note to now James Roberts is on the market...would be nice to be in a position to have a crack at this above average First Grader...

We'd have to offload someone like Nofoaluma to have a chance of Lafai. And have someone pay the bulk of Nofo's contract too.

Not going to happen..

Or if Taylor didn't buy Ballin we could have had a crack.

We're paying Ballin virtually nothing due to him having had 2 yrs to run on his Manly contract, so how would we have been able to afford Lafai with what little money we're actually paying Ballin?

If you insist on having to vent your spleen over the coach, at least do it with something that's accurate.

Lafai was under contract, the dogs wanted Hopoate, Lafai"s contract would be subsidised too, just like Ballin and Farah if he moves on as you would like. :crazy

Its a shame Lafai wasn't on the market a month ago then isn't it. I guess we can add the fact JT isn't a fortune teller to the list of reasons we can use as an excuse to beat a dead horse.

You are worse than me, all I was saying is Lafai would have a subdised contract, you failed to see this.
And Taylor didn't know Lafai or Roberts were coming on the market either, but he sure as hell knew we had the origin hooker and a junior kiwi hooker who was in the senior train on squad on our books already before he signed Ballin, so therefore he was wasting salary cap that could be better used elsewhere.

How can you talk about honouring contracts when you are on here every five minutes wanting to sack Taylor.

Bit hypyocritical I'd say.

I think that's the issue. Matt Ballin would not have signed with the thought of being third choice hooker. IMHO JT signed him on the premise that Robbie would be elsewhere next year.

With Robbie, Mania and Dene being a serviceable option, I think it's quite obvious that we may have been better off purchasing a solid outside back (Lafai fits the profile) or Prop.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I would actually doubt Lafai's contract would be subsidised by much, if at all. He wouldn't be on a huge amount. Dogs need to free cap space for Hoppa. They don't free (as much) cap space if they keep paying him.

For a club like us to sign him we'd likely want the dogs to be paying half. For the Titans to sign him they'd probably be quite happy to pay the full 150k or whatever he's on in order to secure him.

The need to pay a portion of a players salary is dependant on the demand for said player, how high their salary is and the cap space of other clubs.

Hiku, Lafai, Walker, etc most clubs would be happy to secure them at full price…

Lafai has been secured by the Dragons on a 2 year deal…they had some space...
