TIM MOLTZEN'S SPEED A BIG ASSET

The speed of Wests Tigers half-back Tim Moltzen should not be underestimated in 2012 according to centre Chris Lawrence.

Moltzen will start the season in the seven jersey when Wests Tigers take on Cronulla Sharks at Leichhardt Oval in the opening round of the Telstra Premiership on Sunday,March 4 at 2pm.

The former full-back will re-unite with five-eighth Benji Marshall – a halves partnership that has seen Wests Tigers win 9 of 11 matches with Moltzen at 7.

Lawrence's opinion on Moltzen's speed backs up the claim made by Wests Tigers Head Coach Tim Sheens that he feels he has the fastest halves pairing in the competition in Marshall and Moltzen.

“Benji and Tim have played together on and off for the last couple of years and now they have had a pre-season of settling down and having that same combination, you can see the improvement they have made over the trials,’’ Lawrence said.

“I’m sure it will probably be a couple of weeks before we see them at their best but they are looking really good.

“Everyone knows how much speed Benji Marshall has got but I’d say Timmy Moltzen would be the closest to the quickest in the Club at the moment.

“In the first trial against Parramatta, he ran down Chris Sandow so he has got plenty of pace once he gets going. In the clear, I hate to try to stop him.”

I'm sure that Timmy will go real well. I think people have been underestimating him for years, big time. As you said Benji and Tim have had the whole off season to work out how good they will be together. Bring on Sunday, when we won't have to wonder anymore.
