Tim Sheens says Wests Tigers are not overawed by the hot form of Canterbury and their fullback Ben Barba

Tim Sheens believes there are plenty of cracks in the Canterbury-Bankstown armour despite an 11-game NRL winning streak and says star fullback Ben Barba "is not Superman".

Barba has been in imperious form and is an unbackable favourite to win this year's Dally M medal as the competition's best player while shooting the Bulldogs to the top of the competition ladder.

But Sheens, whose Wests Tigers side will clash with Canterbury at ANZ Stadium on Friday night, says he doesn't view the NRL's top side or their gun No.1 as untouchable.

Sheens pointed to last Sunday's clash with Brisbane Broncos, when the Bulldogs trailed 14-0 after 13 minutes, as proof there are weaknesses in Des Hasler's men that can be exploited.

"I'm not in awe of (their current form). They're beatable," Sheens said.

"They've got plenty of cracks in their armour as well.

"We've identified that. But it's about getting it done - you've still got to do it.

"Brisbane last week exposed them a number of times."

Barba leads the NRL in tries (19) and tackle breaks (138) and is second in line breaks (22), but Sheens said his players wouldn't be overawed when confronting the brilliant 23-year-old.

"He's going well but he's not Superman - not the way you guys (media) are saying it," Sheens said.

"I'm sure Dessie's saying the same thing. There's a lot more ammunition to their game besides him.

"But he's the man of the moment so we're going to have to put a fair bit of pressure on him."

Sheens said the key to shutting down Barba's influence on the game was to limit his opportunities and provide a strong kick-chase.

In their last clash, a 32-20 victory to the Bulldogs in round 18, the Tigers peppered Barba with high balls - and Sheens said it would be a tactic they'd need to approach carefully, with halfback Benji Marshall admitting they had gone overboard with it in their previous encounter.

"Like any good player, you limit as much of the opportunities that he gets," Sheens said.

"We've got to kick judiciously … and chase well.

"Obviously he's the key indicator from the point of view of attack so we've got to make sure we've got numbers around on that side of the field.

"He's going to hurt us at some stage (but) you don't want that to be too many times."

Bomb Barba all night but move up in a line, no point running at him with a broken line as it's a written invitation for him to make us look stupid. Have one man run off the line to nail him early, and the rest move up in unison to clean him up.

Negating Barba will go a long way to beating them. He is killing teams on his own much like Benji used to in his early years.

SHUT UP, SHEENS! If we were actually playing well I wouldn't have a problem with it, but the fact we look like a bunch of Under 8s out there trying to tackle the kids from the U/16s, I'm worried we'll have quite a few dozen eggs on our faces

Might be some cracks in their armour, but at least they have an armour! We have an armour made of fairy floss. Onya Tim for waving a red flag to a bull….dog.

How about your own opinion on the topic, instead of your constant whinging about whingers

A bit of variety?

I like Sheens takin em down….might put a few ????'s in their heads, whats to lose, we're outsiders, no one expects us to win???
Shifty can talk em down and Dessy can talk us up

You should take your own advice mate and stop whinging about every move the club makes and add some variety to your posts as well. I remember the days when I religiously read your posts because they were insightful and intelligent and I'm sure the old ink is still in there somewhere.

As for my opinion, I'm glad Tim has come out on the front foot and trying to get into the heads of the bulldogs. I'm so sick of the "they're a tough team and if we work hard we'll see how we go then" type talk. Like you said in another thread Ink, Tim has fired the first shots and now instead of preparing for the game, the bulldogs will have the media camped at their ground for a response from Dessy while the tigers prepare in peace and quiet. No-one manipulates the media quite as good as Tim and I love it when he does it.

No point going out there if they're going to be overawed. Barba is on fire, no doubt about it, but if the Tigers kick smartly which they have the potential to do, and as last week's second half against the Dragons showed, and they chase well…It limits the opportunities Barba has.

More concerning is the battle of the forwards, with James Graham back who is good for up to 200 metres a game, Kasiano who is a giant and has an excellent offload, along with the likes of Pritchard, Tolman and Eastwood who are all very good players. If the Tigers pack can somehow get on top of them, then it goes a long way towards Robbie and Benji having a say in the outcome IMO.

My big concern Willow is there are teams wih far better kicking games and far better defensive records than ours that have been blown away by the Dogs

Keefy and Woods will need to be at their absolute best and Blair need to show us all why we signed him

He is a big game player and this is a big game in our season

The more I watch him, the more I'm convinced that Woodsy loves these match up with the more fancied props. I'm predicting a huge game from him so he can show what he can do against the likes of Kasiano and Graham.

Hear hear

What happened to the Tim Sheens of 3 yrs ago when we were playing Parra in the corresponding round when Hayne was on fire. Sheens said that you can't shut down players like Hayne, just limit their opportunities. Barba's form isn't too far behind Hayne's form of 09 so whats changed Tim Tim? I can just hear the tone of his voice as he was making those quotes in his typical arrogant, pig headed manner

I'd say Barba is in better form than Hayne, but that's just me.

If that is what Sheens actually said it is pretty bizarre. The Bulldogs have just won eleven straight for goodness sake. At the most he should be acknowledging that but saying that the Tigers believe they are in with a shot.
