Time to hang 'em up Toddy

Todd Payten projects an image of a person NOT of self interest and of total loyalty, therefore, he knows and will determine when the time is right. He deserves our respect as a professional footballer and person. Thread stinks.

Well said, thread stinks.
People with a clue will make the right decision, not mug fans.

There is a lot of speculation on this thread. He might be getting past it but he might not want to give up the dollars.

Be carefull tommorrow, that tap on the shoulder from you boss might tell you that your times up :crazy

I love Payten, as people have said already, he seems to ooze selflessness and class.

I hope he gets back on the field and continues into 2012.

But, if he is struggling and decides to hang up the boots, I will not begrudge him one bit. He has given the club more then we could ever repay.

Thanks for the memories, boss.
Make way for the next breed…. AARON WOODS!

Do you think Toddy has more left in the tank??

The thread of the title may be a bit scratchy but this is the whole point of the thread. To ask for opinions as to whether Todd should retire.

Why does the thread stink? Coz CT is asking for opinions??

We as fans won't make decisions but we as fans can give opinions wherever possible.

The thread doesn't stink Ink.

x 2,

I still think that even though he has struggled on field himself, our forward pack benefits from him being on the paddock. I've always been a huge fan of Toddy's though simply because he is a class act. He'll know when his time is up.

Hope the club gives him an opportunity to go into coaching, he's a clever player and really could be anything as coach.

I dont think he has struggled at all, He does tons of extras in defence and in general play that is not noticed on camera. I have no issues with him going around if fit in 2012.

TP and Sheens will know what to do at the right time. Lets give them the respect they deserve.

But we are where we are,& it wld be unreasonable to expect Todd to walk away from his $300k or so next yr.

I would be amazed if Toddy was on anywhere near that much. And if he is then maybe Schubert needs to delve a bit deeper into our books 😱pen_mouth:

People forget what a role he plays in defense and the link between forwards and backs in attack. Come the big matches if fit he will be invaluable. My only real concern is, who will miss out on a spot if and when Todd returns because its all about the balance between youth and experience

x 2 SC He is an invaluable member of the side even in a reduced role . He has been playing injured like many of our forwards have this year . If Sauce gets picked for Origin we will really see why we need to keep Todd .

He has been an excellent player for a long time, hopefully the body keeps going.

A sad reality is that father time catches us all, and that time is not too far away for toddy, i hope he know when, and retires on a good note, too many players, particuarly those with big hearts, dont know how to give up and play on too long, and dont go out in the manner they deserve. I dont want toddy to be one of these players

I agree with you spartan.

Unbelievable some of you guys how quickly you chop and change your opinions and turn on someone after only 1 bad game.

I DONT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN BUT IF LAWRENCE GOT INJURED AGAIN PEOPLE MAY START TO SAY WHY DID SHEENS SIGN HIM TILL 2014.LOL HINDSIGHT

Toddy when fit is invaluable because he provides another link in attack and great deffence in the middle, but since the injuries looks unfit i guess not being able to train and no off season wouldn't help hopefully he hits some form soon.

Don't get me wrong guys.
As i stated in my original post, i am a great supporter of Todd and do hope he goes around for WT as long as possible. I see how his leaderships provides MUCH more to the squad than just the 80mins on-field.
As stated, this was from a close report and the words "body is really struggling" came from Todd's mouth himself.
I would not in any way try to put out a witch hunt out on Payten in any way, but was just asking for supporters' opinions which seems to be a federal crime on a internet forum according to some around here…
But as some have pointed out, Todd does portray a great deal of selflessness and has done nothing to warrant anything bad to be said of him EVER!!
But if a player himself mentions that his body is struggling with injuries, and with a great crop of young forwards coming through right now, then sadly a time for a decision surely has to be made doesn't it??
Perhaps Sheens needs to move him to halfback to extend his playing days.....just a thought.. :exclamation:

been a great signing for us,but we were warned about the struggles payten was having with his knee this year.

iv'e thought about payten for next year and also us signing players like blair and keeping our juniors.

if we were able to sign blair and juniors and the cost was to let payten go,i would be all for it.

sometimes you have to make the hard decision, and this is one of those.

how on earth does this thread stink?
we are trying to sign blair which means a player and dollars need to be cut.
and we aren't talking about the dollars fringe first graders are on.

we also need to be looking ahead at upgrading lui,and that may require an extension that could give him an upgrade for next year.

Will be sad to see him go, hopefully we can keep him in an off field capacity…maybe special advisor to Rob Lui on how to play halfback?

Maybe thats why he had trouble playing the ball against the titans as well. Its un characteristic of him to make so many fundamental mistakes as well.
