it is a total disgrace , and the people who run the nrl should be kicked real hard , when you here this stuff you look back to the balmain and western sububs supporter who watch their teams disapear , they should have been given a hand , i would have both those teamsback before i would help the goldcoast , or any other new team

It's a completely different scenario… At the formation of the NRL the business model wanted a reduced competition. In the current circumstance, the NRL need to ensure a 16 Team Comp to meet contractual needs, plus they wouldn't want to leave the Gold Coast region solely to AFL.

They should just go, fold over. Bring in Ipswich (Sorry I can't stand the name 'Brisbane Bombers'), and that then opens the door to bring in WA and the Central Coast.

I only have two problems with that though:
1\. The AFL will have a full market share with the Suns and
2\. There will be a new stadium up there that has no use, no Titans and no Gold Coast United in the A-League.

Tommy can coach the Ipswich team

Watch the price of Oxen hearts go up on the stock market :roll

It comes back imo to Searle wanting the Titans to be a show piece for how to setup a new franchise and nothing wrong with that either. However, it seems ego's and mis-management may have screwed it up. I think they tried to do too much too soon, should have left things just at a new stadium to start with, then after a few year start seeing what to do next.

The NRL needs a team in the Gold Coast to ensure AFL does not start to dominate that area, and I also think they will have to help out somehow, whether they like it or not.

If you or I were in charge of a company/business that cannot pays bills / goes broke, the liquidators are called in.

If any of the forum users who have a mortgage and did not make payments, you would lose the house.

**_so from a purley clinical / business point of view, and put all emotions aside, the same should occur here._**
Yes the NRL desire for a team to be on Gold Coast, and we would like to see one suceed there.
but its not and once again history is repeating itself.

I think it would be a mistake to not have a team on the Gold Coast. They need to get rid of Michael Searle though. To get a club in such a bad shape in 4 years is a disgrace. I would be surprised if the club hasn't went over the salary cap and been building houses for players. Searle can't be trusted, he talks out of his ass. What club would sign a player like William Zillman for 5 years? Also 5 years for a coach with a couple years experience and always failed in the big matches when they have made the finals. They have struggled since Cartwrights 5 year extension.

Searle isn't any better then Paul Osbourne. And we all know what Osbourne is….....a politician

I wouldnt be too quick to get rid of a team on the gold coast . The nrl have let melbourne stay with news limited cash .
Brisbane already dominate in a one team town, imo we need more sides up north of the border to make for healthy a healthy competition. The NRL should start joint ventures with the struggling sides like Souths and Cronulla.imo

I'm just surprised that out of all this financial stress the Titans are under, there isn't talk of offloading players. I know it probably would do too much, but it just surprises me to hear them linked to Cronk, under financial pressure, and there's not one rumour of a player linked to another club…

I'm confused about all this as well. I'd imagine that 'broke with no salary cap' would mean that they couldn't afford to be buying anyone, let alone Taylor and Cronk on massive deals! I suppose, Tiger91, that Prince and Bailey will be retiring and maybe some others will be shown the door, who knows. It's not making any sense at the moment.

You blokes haven't heard about banks ,bank loans ,overdrafts and the like Most clubs in the NRL don't make money This one is just probably the worse of the lot (Eels and Sharks probably run them close though)

Fair points from you both, Flippedy & Happy. It just stuck me as normally with any kind of club in any sort of problem (financial, on/off field issues with team mates) and there's always the standard "Player X leaving" or "club wants Player X out".

But here are the Titans trying their hand at any and every marquee player on the market.

The Michael Searle/ Titans business plan was sound. They have no Leagues Club to fund the football club, so the Centre of Excellence, was built as an income producing assett, that would pay for itself and the football side.
Unfortunately, the GFC came at the wrong time, and the Gold Coast, being a tourist based town, was hit very hard.
Had the Centre of Excellence been able to lease all of the office space, we wouldn't even be discussing this, or any other relative football issues, simply because I think this business, despite statements to the contrary, are affecting the team and coaching staff.
The Football side of operations made a profit for the first few years, but has dropped off due to non football issues.
Robina has a town centre, the stadium, and not much else, apart from being surrounded by a housing estate. Public Transport is a bit of a joke, as is parking, and the Gold Coast demograhic is hardly a " Football Following " one.
What a lot of people don't know about the gold coast is that it has a high transient population, who own business's their but are not Australians, and have to leave the country every 3 - 12 months to satisfy vesa conditions, yet they own houses and business's and so many are asians who just have no idea what football is.

For those who don't know the place, in winter, you can go anywhere there after 10pm, and you will not find a soul in sight. Go down a few K's to Mermaid beach, and your lucky to see a car anywhere driving after 8 pm. It is definately a money area, but has been hit hard with the GFC, many an investor has done moeny, with apartments in Q1, which were selling for several million dollars, now around the $700,000\. Searle has stuck $3 mil of his own money in the pot, so I reckon he needs help by the NRL and private investors to keep them going, as the AFL would make a field day out of another Gold Coast side going under. 😛ray:

Good luck getting a bank loan when you're allegedly $30 million in the red….
