To those who are blaming Cleary

The only problem i have with Cleary is hes such a great coach yet we where the only ones not playing a hooker at hooker and now he tries on the weekend but we've lost all momentum now its a bit to late….we look out of sorts and down on confidence not the works of a great coach...we need to try and win every week and i dont feel he does that sometimes...I feel he treats some weeks as a training run....If he was serious about winning he would choose better and put hookers in even he doesnt like them there better then Taylor....

In this whole thread this is about the only criticism of Ivan Cleary that i think is fair.

He messed up the hooking role, his decisions havent been good enough when it comes to the 9\. That said i think its purely because he put too much faith in Jacob Liddle coming good.

As he has with Lolohea, Aloiai, Marsters etc etc.

Its his one true fault, he is too nice to his squad.

Needs a harder edge.

I'm not blaming Cleary, I'm thankful for him.

When it comes to signings he has no choice but to temper them with salary cap limitations. As others have mentioned, you can only sign who is available and **Cleary himself has said some signings are not the players to take us to where we need to be, but are players to help us get there**. We've already come a long way in 12 months both on and off the field IMO.

I'm glad we have a responsible and experienced coach who seems to have a good raportt with players and others in the game. It could be a lot worse.

So I'll continue to support his actions.

(edit: as hard as it was to take last Sundays game!!)

When is he supposed to have said this?

It was an interview on FOX earlier this year ( Maybe the show with the 4 women), when he also said there will be bad times, but that doesn't mean you can't have success along the way.

Umm we are still rebuilding because Jason Taylor levelled the place. It was a total mess when he left. All our best players left and the club was the joke of the league.

The recruitment was as good as it coulod have been given the circumstances.

Cleary is doing a good job of putting it back together.

He was sacked before they left. If i recall, everyone was rejoicing saying they would now re-sign, that its what was holding them back. We needed a real coach they said. Cleary was here a good month and was asked specifically during his first press conference whether he would be involved in negotiations and his answer was yes. But Taylor is the reason they left…

Also, how do you rebuild something that was never built in the first place?

Sigh,

They left because we were a very average club, they wanted better.

Jason Taylor played a massive part in making us a very average club.
Im sure Cleary impressed Tedesco and Woods but the damage was done. They were leaving.

Others like Farah, Addo Carr etc were let go or not prioritised much earlier in the proceedings.

Reality isnt complicated!

No it isn't. And the reality is we were an average club with or without Taylor thanks to the incompetentcy of the previous board destroying our cap and shafting Taylor's predocessor. That's who your misplaced anger should be directed at. How Mayer recieves so little attention for this is mind boggling!

Good post GNR - too many people on here want to crucify Taylor but want to let the other culprits go scott free. Yep Taylor didn't work out but people should be blaming the board for the mess he was given. Funny how everyone can see it was the board that destroyed Canterbury but can only see Taylor as the culprit for WT mess.

The bottom line is, when your near the bottom its a long hard road to travel to get up with the big guys. IMO Cleary has done a great job, okay results have not been great, but except for last week you get the feeling things are heading in the right direction.

People say he put most of this roster together so others can not use the argument that he inherited the playing roster. I say when your club has been in turmoil and under achieving for a long time its very hard to attract anyone, so basically your options are very limited.

I said at the start of the year that we would nose dive when the grind and injuries hit in after two months, its nothing to do with the coach more about lack of speed power and quality.

Anyway I am more than happy to see Cleary in charge for the next three years or more and than I will judge him

I think the problem is more than a hooker,

We may have farah back for the next 3 years.

I doubt Farah can keep up the standard that long, with Liddle virtually ready to go it would have to be 18 months at the most with shared duties. But more likely only 6 months.

Yr right BBF

I was being a little sarcastic.

Am a RF fan but in saying that any contract apart from the rest of 2018 would be folly.

Give him and Benji the send off this year together.

Yep round 25 finishing ninth after missing out on the top 8 on F/A. That's the Wests Tigers way!
