Too hot to play

Does anybody know who from our club accepted our playing a trial at 3pm in the middle of February. Its the main trial for all our new signings and they will be exhausted after 20 minutes. If we were told to by the NRL and couldn't refuse it shut up. Wouldn't surprise me after we were robbed last season eg Cowboys

Dont they have unlimited subs and drinks breaks?

Yes but that doesn't give us a good look at our recruits?
But then you give the opposition a good look as well

I agree with you to a point ...as our spine will need game time and our 1st 3 games are absolutely crucial to our season ........but we a completely revamped squad our biggest weapon early on could be surprise tactics .....I mightn't agree with all Sheens tactics ...but he can develop some shock plays early on which might give us a slight edge

My biggest concern is who is teaching these blokes to tackle in the off season

Hopefully our new boys already know how to tackle.Im sure they do

Do you think unlimited subs would work in a normal game at NRL level?
I guess the main point about player safety is why not at night..... wouldn't there be more viewing if it was at night game and is cooler? Why is it a day game?

I don’t like the 20min quarters, doesn’t allow a team to develop their rhythm in the game. But it’s good for player welfare. Why couldn’t the game be played after sunset?

They're pro-athletes, training in
December & January at high-
intensity isn't an issue. Playing
in mid-feb in 1/4's with drinks
and unlimited subs isn't an issue.
It's more humid than hot anyway.
Every other team has to do it too.
Like Happy said, you don't show
your cards. Round 1 for points is
what matters. This is a non-issue

I think most coaches these days run basically 4 squads a trial game. Too hard to play everyone otherwise.
Unless of course both trials are different squads but keep the spine relatively unchanged.

I've heard it that coaches have
'gentlemans agreements' for
trials as well. Both teams know
what to expect to a certain extent &
the coaches sub & rotate accordingly.
This is a game fitness exercise,
not a strategy/combo excercise

It's going to be interesting that the NRL is treating this as a pre season comp with betting allowed.
Will this increase the standard of play.... please o great one, NO injuries.

True. But I don't think it will effect
anything with relation to how the
trials are played. The franchise
knows there's no points on offer,
It's crazy how they're allowing
punters to bet on this. Making up
the windfall for the failed 9's I'd say

It cost the NRL more to run it.
This is the new model brother.
Put in on subscription and open
the betting markets. Not much
outgoing and a lot of earning.

The clubs would play awesome full on footy if there were big dollars on offer..money talks, losers walk.

Still it's necessary evil as they say.
I'll watch the trials and cheer on the tigers even if it was full of development or train and trial players... footy, bring it on.
Goodnight all. 😴
