Ringo Starr has cancelled an upcoming performance in North Carolina over the state's controversial transgender bathroom law.
The former Beatles drummer is the latest entertainer, following Bruce Springsteen and Bryan Adams, to cancel a US gig over controversial state legislation involving the LGBT community.
"I'm sorry to disappoint my fans in the area, but we need to take a stand against this hatred," Starr said in a statement. "Spread peace and love."
Starr had been scheduled to perform at the Koka Booth Ampitheatre in Cary, west of Raleigh, on 18 June.
His decision to axe the show comes as North Carolina's governor tries to stem mounting backlash over the state's transgender law.
Two companies - PayPal and Deutsche Bank - have announced their intention to scrap plans to add jobs in the state.
Several other major corporations, including Google, Apple, IBM and American Airlines, have also condemned the North Carolina law.
The measure, signed by Governor Pat McCrory in March, forces transgender people to use public toilets that match their birth genders.
Critics have decried the North Carolina law and similar "religious freedom" measures in southern states like Mississippi as an attack on the LGBT community.
Supporters argue the measures are necessary to keep women and children safe and to protect religious liberties.

BBF: There are certainly two sides to this story. Genuine transgenders have a case for using women's toilets or definitely not men's toilets but I could imagine naughty straight males taking advantage. They could dress as women (as Blocker used to ha ha) then enter the Byron Bay change rooms and get 6 eyefuls of gorgeous lovely ladies in various stages of undress. They would be in like Finn lining up to enter. Todd and Mitch could have a field day.
I don't care about protecting the religious liberties of conservatives of not allowing genuine transgenders in.
