There are some negatives but I believe the positives far exceed the negatives.

Really…I would have thought the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one...Spock out..

Because having a cure for the flu or common cold merely preserves the original lifespan that humans are meant to endure in a normal environment. You're not literally extending the life span nor playing with the fibre of an entire species Alien. I have had two open heart surgeries that would have almost seen me off at the age of thirteen, but I will only live to the age that the human body will allow. There's a reason why we're limited to 100 years on this planet, give or take a decade, and that's because evolution dictates it so.

I think it's a good thing that we have an expiry date, otherwise class acts like Stalin, Hitler, Gaddafi, Mubarak, Hussein, Caesceau and Milosevic would still be roaming the Earth.

Yeah but who says we are only meant to be limited to 100 years? People used to die alot younger in the past but with better medicines and technology people are living longer now. In the past people probably said we are only meant to live for 60 years. Why don't you believe that people will live longer in the future with new medicines and technology? There would be so many benefits of this technology - living longer is just one of those benefits. People like Hitler wouldn't still be alive because getting shot in the head would still kill someone. Just on that subject they have recently found out that the skull they found buried near Hitler's bunker wasn't actually his. They found out just recently because they tested the chromosones and it was FEMALE! They were stunned because they always thought it was Hitler's remains because it has a gunshot through the skull and they thought he commited suicide but it was a skull from a female.

hmm ive done some more research about transhumanism and there should definately be limitations on it. it covers so many things. i sort of have mixed feelings about it now - a part of me loves the idea of transhumanism and another part of me hates it! conflicted!

Nature, and more specifically, our bodies say that we are limited to approximately 100 years! The ageing process dictates this. The body starts to degenerate, blindness sets in due to the compression in the skull against the eyes, the organs start to fail, muscles are signifcantly weaker including the heart.

That's natures way of tapping you on the shoulder Alien.

You are right regarding lifespans improving due to technological advancements, but this only allows us to exploit our full use by dates since we can combat disease effectively. It doesn't artificially increase our lifespan or slow the ageing process.

I know what you are saying but in the future there could be ways to slow down the aging process, and I am not talking about a slight difference. You might say it's not natural but that doesn't mean it's bad.

That's a fair call. I don't doubt there are benefits to it also, but where the good people will reap said benefits there will be just as many waiting to exploit it.

I wouldn't mind technology that slows down aging for those that want to benefit from it but there are other things about transhumanism that I don't think should happen - For example adding animal or plant DNA to human DNA. That is taking it too far I reckon, but as crazy as it sounds that's exactly what could happen in the future. Society would end up a bigger zoo than it already is and it would get even more out of control. There are heaps of videos about it on YouTube. I find it very interesting but in some ways a little bit scary.

Biggest problem ( apart from moral objections) is how everyone is going to fit on the planet if we extend life spans - and where the food and water comes from to feed everybody.
Maybe end up like that old song "In the year 2525" and we'll be taking a pill to feed us and picking our babies from the bottom of a test tube!
