Turning point in our season?

Hi Guys,

I usually read intently and follow the forum, but hardly contribute, I guess usually someone brings up points I agree with and others not so anyway, so all the viewpoints cover my thoughts in some way. Either way, I really enjoy the banter on here for most, even the craziness this past week with us doing badly and of course this will always attract a lot of craziness both in people and their thoughts.

Anyways, I felt compelled as I'm torn between being positive for the rest of 2012 or worried our season is already slipping away… I know, its still so early, but Its getting more and more desperate we win a game soon.. Surely we can't rely on a 8 or 9 game winning streak at the back half like usual.. We need to get close to 50% very soon.

So, Is this the turning point in our season now ?, More Importantly for the better or for the worse.. ??

Can anyone give constructive & informative feedback as to how we will respond against the Broncos... ?Are we now at desperate times, or are we just back to back wins away from being on track and all good. Look forward to all your thoughts

I missed most of the game today, But it seems we Improved out of sight, bar the last 5 to 8 mins...Where we once again failed to close the game out.. I am so shattered as I really felt we were home, But of course always knew the Impossible can happen with our team.. Its hard to believe what transpired in those mad 5 or 6 minutes though all the same. How bad was that first set in golden point.. I do think we had lost that game once it was 16 all.

Will this cut our blokes to the core and therefore will we further unravel against the Broncs and spiral right our of control, ? OR will this continue to FIRE up the boys and on the back of Farah returning and hopefully the return of big Keefy will we get back on track and win 3 in a row or something similar... ? It does seem Its at that point now where something has to give..

A short turnaround will not help matters.. I guess Im just hoping for some good feedback from you all and even though we are all guttered, COULD this actually be a turning point in our season for the better...?? Have we turned the corner ?

Positives, some punch back in our defence and with Robbie and most probably Keefy back, that's 2 big players back on the back of a much improved performance today against the Rabbitohs..

So I guess I'm trying to be positive and want to know if you all or most feel the same and if we can still get it together and still have a crack at making the semis and so on.. I

Thoughts ??

Cheers Guys and I still have faith, But I'm absolutely shattered tonight and I'm trying to take some solace and hope for next week.. Hopefully this can be a positive!! Also a Big thanks to all the supporters here, We certainly are a passionate lot and the dedication to making such a site exist ( thanks mods and all those involved) is really appreciated by me and I'm sure most on here.

Go Tigers!

Honestly? No. We won't turn it around. Why? Because last year was the year. This happened against the Dragons in 2010 and it happened against the Warriors last year. This year it happened AGAIN. A 1-4 start. Still getting favouritism every damn match. This was a statement game and they lost. They played OK (not great) but still were terrible in defense most of the game. Attack is pedestrian. Where are the plays for Lawrence? Why is he right center? Why is Blair terrible (He played better though, still bad)?

They are going to cop a hammering from the media and they won't be mentally tough enough to shake it off. When have they ever shown mental strength? Never.

turning point? you'd like to think we can pull off some sort of turn around like the past couple of seasons but i reckon we're cooked for this year. may scrape into the 8 but new finals format will not favor teams with back end season momentum, need top 4 finish and we dont look anywhere near top 4 material.

If we beat Brisbane and then win our next three (all 'winnable') then, yes, it will be a turning point.

If we lose to the Broncs and are 1 and 5…..............with Ellis out for a while............it's going to take basically every bounce of the ball going our way + no injuries for us to make a run at it.

1 and 5 is a deep whole and you basically need everything to go right to recover.

More likely, today was a big turning point for Souths. They were never in the game and yet they won. Had they of lost and with Burgess out a while, it could have been a hard year for them.

Great post. People here are forgetting about the new finals format.

To win a comp = you'll NEED to be in the top 4 basically.

A bad start to a season is much, much more relevant than the past few years / mcintrye system.

If the Tigers can somehow beat the Broncos, then that could be the turning point. Farah will be back and possibly Galloway which will help. But if you're a betting man your money would have to be on the Broncos at 13+. Marshall is the only Tigers player with any attacking creativity, and he's rocks and diamonds at the moment due to the forwards not dominating.

I don't think the finals system will have that bigger effect, it assures a second bight for teams 3/4 which they weren't afforded under the old system. As for 5-8 one would think 8 has more chance to beat 5 n 7 beat 6 the 1 or 2 if they are coming in with good or great end of season form. Sure one bad game and your out but this could have happened to you in 3rd spot last yr.

I know in the afl no team outside top 4 have won the gf but I think there are four teams who are well above the others in that comp. the nel is a very evenly matched comp in my opinion.

Still have to win four games during the semis

We finished 4th in 05 and still had to win four games

If our best side shows up and we make the 8 Nothing can stop us IF we can play at our best

I believed this year was the year of the Tiger before the competition started. In the euphoria, I forgot about my continual concern that the team lacked a captain/leader, who could read the team strategy required at each stage of a match. As an ex-Magpies supporter, I remember in the early nineties how Andrew Farrer would take control to close out a game by kicking the leather off the ball and yelling at the team to get down and tackle, when the team was in the lead late in the match.
1\. Who is the cool-headed leader to take control of the strategy and make sure we close out a game, when we are in front late in a game?
2\. Who was the "leader", who decided NOT to set up for a field goal with the two scrum wins in the last ten minutes inside the Souths 10 metres?
In my view, this has been our "missing link", since Scott Prince left.
