Uni advice

Like some of our freshly graduated HSC students here (congratulations to them all, btw) I've been seriously considering going back to uni next year. I know many people here have some pretty serious tertiary qualifications so I was wondering if those people could drop some advice.

Is doing post-graduate coursework worthwhile considering that you almost have to put your professional career on hold? Not to mention that most post-grad stuff is not Commonwealth Supported

Why can't you do post-grad whilst continuing to work? Part time masters is pretty common?

Masters yeah, but i'm looking an LLB (grad) or JD which would be 6 years 😕

Ah I see. It is a pain that they aren't commonwealth supported, because I think a JD is like $70k.

Is it in line with your work Kul? Most of my post-grad stuff has been funded by my work and done part-time.

All I can say is that you're a glutton for punishment Kul. I wouldn't be doing it unless your employer pressing for you to do it, and is subsequently kicking in for it.

I'm investigating doing a law degree part time over the next few years so I have a string or two in my bow in case my industry I am involved with now goes to the clapper. I don't think I could handle the 20 hours study/participation above the 45 hours I already work though :S

It depends on your passion for what you are studying.

LLB course load isn't all that heavy until the final couple of years.

Much better doing it while young as it expands your possibilities

It's tough work Kul. And you will hate it at times. Mark my words. Just need to have a goal in mind, and try not to lose sight of it.

I have a young family, full time job, and am currently doing a bachelor of Technology through OUA, just so I can have a piece of paper for the work I already do (however just in case I need to change companies, location etc…)

its.... not easy to say the least, and can be a bit of a downer at times, but when results come through its good.

I keep telling myself that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
