Please no. Let's think like the Storm going forward and they don't do this.

Hope people realise I meant it as a tongue in cheek comment.

I'd still try and give him a 5 year deal at like $650k though

Stef on $650 for 5 years would be a bargain

What did we offer TPJ and Finucane? He’s not there yet, but he will get there on current projections?

I do agree, lock him up for a good length of time.

He's slowly establishing himself as the bloke in the Wests Tigers pack aged 21 thanks to the help of Dale Finucane, FuiFui MoiMoi, his son Samson, and weights sessions on Christmas Day.

And no thanks to the Eels who gave him only 11minutes of game time for the season but wouldn’t release him.

Sad....

A year or two from now heaps more people will make claim to having some input into the emergence of Stefano’s great form. I don’t think anyone at WT is concerned who takes credit for it as long as it happens.

The one thing these articles should reaffirm is that it's an attitude thing. I've loved watching Stefano since his first appearance for us and it's because it looks like he holds himself to a high standard and is taking every opportunity with both hands.

Great to see Twal and Stefano getting good media today, a nice change for a club that is often quite negatively portrayed across the board

Sure, it’s an attitude thing, and I think when you drill into what is having an effect on their attitude you’ll probably find the players are too hard on themselves?
How many times do we see tries being scored from mistakes? If you’ve read Drucker’s one minute manager? One minute appraisals, The principal is the same but the players have even less time to appraise their good or bad plays and return their focus to the next move within seconds. I’ve seen it in the young players like Tommy, wasting time admonishing themselves.

The Wests Tigers may have missed out on Dale Finucane’s services earlier this year, but the influence of the Storm lock is still being felt among Michael Maguire’s squad.

None more so than for Stefano Utoikamanu, the Tigers prop who has taken it upon himself to lead the Tigers towards a late finals push.

Utoikamanu has been integral to that surge, leading their yardage in wins over the Cowboys and Dogs. But it is in part due to Finucane’s presence in the NSW Blues squad that the prop has gone from interchange option to first name on the teamlist.

“I probably started the year a bit slow,” says the 21-year-old, as he tends to his son, Samson, from the Tigers’ Queensland hotel.

“I got hungrier to be in the starting squad every week and I think going into that NSW camp (for Origin III) and being around those guys helped bring my confidence up a bit. “Being around players who are at the top of their game – that’s somewhere I want to be.

“That made me push myself and try be the best I could be for the Tigers.

“Everyone in that team is a leader, everybody talks in the meetings and prepares well.

“Dale Finucane, preparation wise, he’s so professional.

He was my roommate and he was down there stretching and doing all the extras after training and puts 100 per cent in.”

For Utoikamanu, who arrived from Parramatta during the off-season and cites Fuifui Moimoi as his inspiration, the work ethic has always been there.

So committed was the prop to make an impression on Maguire that he asked Tigers staff to turn the security alarm off at their training base so he could train on Christmas Day.

“I wanted to go train because I knew I was going to have a big one,” he says.

“I didn’t want to not train and then eat a load of junk. I really wanted to work hard and earn my spot in that team.”

Still outside of the eight, two consecutive wins have propelled the Tigers up the table and they can continue their pursuit of an unlikely finals finish with a win over a battered Cronulla on Saturday.

That’s followed by clashes with Penrith and Canterbury, and Utoikamanu says it’s in the Tigers’ hands to decide if they will play on into September.

“I definitely believe we can do it,” he adds.

“I think that if our whole team believes we can do it then we can put it into action.

“We’ve done it over these last two weeks to put in back to back wins.

“Over these next few weeks everybody has to focus on themselves individually and what they can do for the team to best prepare ourselves to win.

“That’s what we have done the last two weeks, but I think we can improve these next three weeks and I believe we’ve got what it takes to win.”

I never saw anything on the field to get excited about, but I thought this is the sort of leadership Tamou would bring. Haven't heard anyone say anything like this about him since he's been here.

Maybe we need Jimmy Maloney in to do some work, he is famous for forgetting his errors and making the next play a good one.

Yes, but I wonder if he was always like that? Or is it a skill he developed through experience? I don’t think it helps to have your team mates rushing in to give you high fives after you’ve stuffed up, if you get the same response after you’ve scored a 50 mt try. ? better to have blue shirt Robbie , Ads, Jimmy or Brooksy to remind them to focus on the job? Your best is good enough!

No doubting the Roosters will come for big Stef for replacement for JWH and i also think Simpkin will be on the radar of a few clubs ( Manly, Cowboys, Penrith ) during the off season considering now hell definitely be in the shop window for reminder of the season . And if we are playing Liddle for 80mins , Simpkin might ask for a release for an better opportunity for more minutes at another club

I don’t think we need to be that pessimistic. He could have stayed at Parramatta if he was solely interested in being at a “better” club. I’m optimistic he’s a long term player who we based a future pack around. He’ll be an origin player in the next few years.

Most definitely..Already contracted till the end of 2023..seems a humble guy with a good head on his shoulders...with the Cap well managed plenty of room to accomodate him .. rest assured chicken littles ..

Ah yes, the brilliant Dale Finucane they're always talking about. I'm so glad we missed his signing. Too old, and would have been on way too much money. Great player, but his best is behind him, and I don't buy this "he'll be a great influence on everyone around him."

The Tigers need talent. We lack talent. Not an old front rower who will only get more injuries and concussions as the years go by. We lack leadership sure, but talent is first and foremost in sport. We severely lack it. Utoikamanu, Simpkin, Maumalo, Blore, Laurie are the few I've seen glimpses of talent in so far. Tuilagi looked promising last week but we'll see.

The rest seem to really struggle physically and
kinesthetically. It other words, they seem to "not have it." Doueihi, Brooks, Liddle, Talau, Luciano are all in this category for me. We have too many players like this who are physically and in terms of movement, agility are just outgunned by their oppositions.

100% the club needs to start playing Simpkin or he will head elsewhere at contracts end. We need to make the call either play simpkin or stick with Liddle or he will head elsewhere he is off contract end of 2022
Roosters will use JWH money for Stefano
we need to lock up
Stef
Simpkin
Laurie

I have some knowledge of Maloney through mutual friends and he’s just that guy who doesn’t get fazed. A strong mental character with a ratbag streak. We need more Liam Fulton’s
and less Instagrammers.
