Just heard the shocking news of the passing of Lou Reed

Although he was before my time ,I have always enjoyed his music ,whether it was Velvet Underground or during his solo days

A true pioneer of mid to late 60's , he was always best known for "Take a walk on the wildside "

I think if asked what my favourite Lou Reed song was a song from the eighties called "The Last Great American Whale "

Lou was different no doubt , but he was a great musician

RIP Lou Reed

I'm a massive fan of Reed particularly his work in the Velvet Underground. He was an extremely influential musician and songwriter and a pioneer in those areas. Some of the stuff he was doing in the mid to late 60s was a giant leap forward and an important stepping stone for what followed. That first album with songs like Venus In Furs, Heroin, Waiting for the Man and Beginning to See The Light stand up today. Tracks like The Gift and Murder Mystery with the split tracks were groundbreaking. As a solo artist he continued putting out challenging songs that treated the listener as an adult - Transformer was a great album but Berlin is just a stunning album .Even Metal Machine Music seems to be rehabilitated these days,

I wish I had the ability to write like the man himself could to pay him the tribute he's due. His words and music have been a pleasure for me for so many years now. RIP Lou

Wouldnt call his death shocking….more a matter of time

RIP.

Yeah, saw a photo of him about six weeks ago and he was yellow. Remember thinking then that he mustn't have had much time left.
