Hull have announced that Australian full-back Wade McKinnon has left the club for personal reasons, just six months into a three-year contract.

The 31-year-old, who joined the Super League club from Wests Tigers in the winter, sought a release after failing to settle in East Yorkshire and will to return home to be with his family.

Hull director of rugby Shaun McRae said: "Wade has left the club to return to Australia and we thank him for his contribution to the team over the last six months.

"We wish him well upon his return home and in his future career."

The departure of McKinnon, who played in 10 of Hull's opening 11 Super League matches, leaves the Black and Whites without a specialist full-back for Saturday's home game against champions Leeds.

Stand-off Richard Horne deputised during McKinnon's absence against Bradford in March while youngster Reece Lyne played full-back in the recent Challenge Cup defeat by Huddersfield.

In a statement, McKinnon said: "I have really enjoyed playing with the team during my time in Hull and have made some really good friends here.

"I would like to wish them and the club the best of luck for the remainder of the season.

"I would like to thank everyone for their support at Hull FC during my time at the club, as well as Peter Gentle and Shaun McRae for their understanding of the situation and allowing me to return home."

Maybe we can pick him up for free again, like we did initially from the warriors….

Or get him on board to coach our fullbacks.

It's an interesting development though.

Hell yeah, if he is cheap.

Then if he is injured many times it's okay Moltzen can fill in for him.

Just for this year only, Tedesco next year. That would be awesome.

This is not such a silly idea. Tedesco could use an older head to go to for advice. Wouldn't hurt for him to teach Moltzen how to hang off the likes of Woods and Reddy who get the ball free fairly regularly.

In regards to playing though, his hamstrings must resemble swiss cheese and he spends two games off the paddock for every one he plays so he'd be a waste unless he was on match payments.

You all seem to forget we made our winning run to the semis when Moltzen took over from McKinnon.

Wade is a really good fullback, would be a handy pick up if his hammy can hold up!?

The thing I liked about Wade was that aside from being really reliable at the back he was always looking for offloads.

It was just his hamstrings that caused an issue!

Here we go

 Couldn't help myself CB (true as it is).
Must admit I thought McKinnon was great for us when not injured - a quality player.
The injuries didn't help in a few not so good games he had for us- plus kept him off the field too much.
Don't know if we could afford him - although he played every week in England without injury so might be worth a look.
The other thing is why he left- did Sheens tell him he wasn't wanted and to look around?

Yeah his hammies are/were an issue but he has played 10 of the 11 games in ESL Must admit I was always a fan because of his support play and positional play Maybe if we needed him for the rest of the season , but we won't need him next season We have a guy with all of McKinnons attributes that is far quicker in Tedesco

Was a hard, tough and committed player. But he struggled to complete games for us last year. I would say no, we can't afford to have to keep replacing the fullback. he had also lost a lot of speed last time i seen him play.

Dear oh dear, please tell that i haven't read people suggesting we should sign him for the rest of the season :brick: :brick: :brick:

I think so why not if his cheap.

Yeah well players who play 1 game every 6 weeks do tend to come cheap. Can't believe anyone would suggest this garbage

What's there to lose exactly GNR4LIFE?

Haven't seen what he's done in the SL, but if his hammy has been holding up well he's definitely worth a look for a bargain. So what we sign him up for the year for next to nothing and he doesn't play much?

I'd take him.

He was too old, too slow, and past it last year. I don't imagine he got any younger or quicker during his short stint in Hull.

No thanks - actually, make that a "HELL NO!".

We won 3/4 of our games while he was in the team. Hull have been in great form and only lost 1 game with him in the team. If he is fit I'd say yes for the rest of this season.
