Mum never complained and they spoke every day. Visited once or twice a year because us kids were young and had school.
I don't want to de-rail this thread, but how on Earth did you parents spend 24 years in a long-term relationship, with 1-2 per year visits, then go straight into living with each other 24/7. Surely with the end of that in-grained separation and person freedom, there'd be a murder within a few weeks of living back together every day as old folks?
It's pretty extraordinary isn't it.

No way I could do it.
I jokingly put that exact question to him last year over a beer not long after he came back back. Got a smack across the head and was told that without loyalty and commitment you may as well throw in the towel because your're only cheating yourself.
