We need an innovator, not a copycat

We need Potter to be an innovator. We have the cattle to be competitive, but not the best. We need a coaching innovator to give us a sustainable edge. Bellamy introduced the wrestle at the Storm, Hasler the big forward pack playing like halfbacks, in 2005 we had Sheens and the touch football mentality.

We will never have the edge trying to play the same structure and style as the others. Need to stop playing catch-up and look at something different. Adopt a leaders mentality rather than a followers. What are the next major innovations in league - I am unsure, but you can bet that if you were to fast forward 10 years you could look back on some major changes in the game. We need to be at the forefront of those changes and lead the way. Over to you Mr Potter.

The best innovations that Potter needs to carry out is to take players, who are tending to be lazy, out of their comfort zones. i.e. Blair to prop and Benji to fullback etc. I am sure that would create sparks and it would work.

lol what? getting them out of their comfort zones would be telling blair to put the shoulder in on the tackles, telling benji to take the line on, telling moltzen to run the ball back at speed.

Speed is whats needed in todays game - our backline without Koro would have to be one of the slowest in the comp - the Titans are showing what speed can do against compressed defences - stand deep and get the ball outside the defence quickly and have 2 very fast finishers.

Could not agree more. I have not seen much of Brooks but I hope he is a genuine 7.

You can't guarantee that innovations are going to be successful or popular. Most innovations don't work. Sheens was one of the better innovators and we all know how that went. Would probably say that most competitions aren't won by innovators but by teams that execute simple skills very well.
Just keep in mind that potter has been in the country for about six months and I'm guessing he didn't watch every single tigers game while he was in the UK, he doesn't know the players that well. I would be way more concerned if he tried to come in and change everything without getting to know the players and structures in the joint first.

the tigers at the moment have imo the slowest, most ineffectual backline in the nrl .... even more so than those jellied eels.
speed kills opposition and at this moment we have none.

I think we have a slow backline and a light backrow but I think it is fairly easy to change in the backrow. Anasta out of the backrow and with 4 forwards on the bench as per this week and the problem is solved there.

With regards to the backline if Koro comes back and we get rid of Ayshford or maximise Lawrence's and possibly Moltzen's role then I think we can have a decent backline. I don't think it will be great unless Ayshford and possibly Reddy go and Lawrence/Moltzen/Tedesco/Benji all fire but I think it can be decent.

Ideally a 6 or 7 comes up from the lower grades, Moltzen goes to the centres and fires, Reddy gets dropped for a fast winger and Tedesco kills it at 1\. Then we will have a good backline but that would take some major changes.

I think Anasta could work at 7.
Brooks IMO way too raw and young, he will burnout in firsts. Give it 2 years and we'll have some talent to utilise.
