WE (SUPPORTERS) DESERVE BETTER.

This is may take on our club, we have been let down now for years, as the club has not signed a 1/2 back since prince left 7 years ago. we also have been in need of a strike front rower and a backrower for 2 or 3 years now, but nothing has been done. Yes we are signing our kids but that means we will again be left out of the finals for at least 1-3 years.
With all the players leaving, and i make it about 9-10 players out of are top 25 players, we manage to sign one good young front rower and 2 blokes in there 30s.
Yet we sit and watch all the other teams bring in players that on this forum we consider would be good buys, yet we get nothing.
It is all good and well to say we will buy big in 2015 but who is to say we will get anyone then either. We need a strike backrower NOW so that the kids can come through and play in a side that will compete next year not just make up the numbers. instead of buying pat and dene that money should have been spent on a class backrower, and dont say there is none about because we could do the same as brisbane have done with Kennedy approach the club about a release and throw some money at them.
We may be going in the right direction now but how long do we have to wait teams like the dogs and the roosters do it overnight and watch brisbane do the same yet we will take 1-3 years.

WE DESERVE BETTER! Thats my rant for this week.

Regardless of who we buy to come into the club. They won't be an instant success. Patience goes a long wait to help building the club. What is the point of buying players when they may be "too old" in the 3 years. Then what? Raise the juniors we have?

We have heaps of talent at our club, it would be a massive insult to them if we started just buying up players.

Your missing the point, we need a good strong backrower not a small over 30 year old to go with the kids please read the post for what it says not what u think it says, please.

I really don't see the problem.

The club isn't doing that badly in my opinion. We have had a tough year and maybe a tough couple of years but we are rebuilding. All we can do is sign the players that are on offer at reasonable salaries and hopefully put a good structure around the club.

To me the key mistake was not signing Fifita but its done and its in the past and there were probably reasons for it. I like the look of the team going forward.

By the time we got onto the marketplace and knew where we were going to be financially I would imagine it makes it impossible to go after those names as most were gone before we were in a position to move.

I was looking at the comparison chart on a forum of talent off contract this seasons end and next and I think it is a wiser move to frontload some contracts and have a better idea where some of our young forwards are at after a second full off season in the NRL squad.

It is frustrating but I believe there are better times ahead if we can finally clear ourselves from our last two CEO's the offload king and the backloader

Till Benji decide 750 grand a year was a kick in the guts, we did not have the cap space to sign anyone and were probably struggling to be able to offer extended deals to Brooks and Moses. Than Benji decides to walk and everything changed, the only problem, all the quality players had already signed deals for 2014.

Potter and Mayer have their hands tied till next year and that is probably a good thing, they should be in a better position to judge on some of the junior talent we have coming through the system.I can cop another bog average year,if I can see a bright light at the end of the tunnel

Talk about meltdown, give the guy a brown paper bag so he can breathe in it lol.

Firstly, with regards to the halfback problem you suggest we have. After Prince left, we experimented with Morris. Didnt work. Experimented with Benji, didnt work. Put all our eggs in one basket with Lui, worked until he turned into a low life grub. Not the clubs fault. So we move on and tried with Jacob Miller, not up to first grade standard. Went back to trying with Benji again. Didnt work again. Now we're using young Siro, who really isnt setting the world on fire but at his age and level of experience, you wouldnt expect much more. SO you suggest we go out and buy a half back? Something like Parramatta did and fork out $500k+ for someone to play NSW cup? Everyone wants a great halfback and they're rare to find. Not even NSW can find a decent half back, how do you expect the Wests Tigers to do it? To have a great half back in your team is just luck. You cant just go out and pluck one because he's the flavor of the month. Parra just proved that.

We thought we were buying a classy back rower when we bought Blair. At the time he was classed as one of the best in the game. For various reasons he hasn't worked out so we then chased for Luke Lewis really hard last year. He decided he wanted to go to the Sharks. How is that the clubs fault?

As for us not trying to talk to Kennedy, how do you try and convince a player to come to us when he wants to go back home to QLD? Not gonna happen mate.

You can whinge and moan all you want but at the end of the day, the personnel we have had at the club for the last 2-3 years simply havent been good enough. Even if we had the best half back in the world playing for us, he wouldnt have saved us. This clean out is more important to us than any half back running around now. Our day in the sun will come. We have a new regime at the club and as fans, we just need to be patient and believe in what Mick Potter and Grant Meyer are doing.

What we need is a defensive coach of the quality of Steve Folkes to allow Potter to instill discipline and a winning mentality in our players. I see Woods, Galloway, Blair, Farah, Sue, Gavet, Taupau, BMM, Thompson, Ava with Fulton and Anasta are our forwards to lead us in 2014 just need the right combination of coaches to ensure it happens!

"Rolls" Royce Simmons time is up!

Marketplace isn't very big atm and the Benji decision came too late when the good off contract players were available. Additionally unless the gun player is homesick or did something bad then you are unlikely to sign them, unless you pay massive overs. Furthermore many gun players are only illusions, great at one club but terrible when they move. Hence the immediate focus on club culture over paper player roster.

Judge the current management on 2015 recruits.

I'm happy with where we're at tbh. We've added where we need to. Let's face it we did well to compete as well as we have this year with the injury toll. We've blooded a lot of young guys. Next year if we can manage a year with less injuries we'll do well. Fast, exciting outside backs … three of the best young halves in the game. Taupau could be a backrower as he's fast as hell. Farah. Add Galloway, Taupau, Richards and Halatau to our current side and we're in the 8 imo.

IMHO, Taupau is better option than Kennedy, he is younger, faster with stronger leg drive.
And finally we turned towards our juniors, with only Santi lost so far :🙂
Go Tigers

HAVE PATIENCE ! :sign:

Seems more of the same to me signing small second rowers and wingers…ohh that's right it's not the same its worse...we are second last this year.

halatau is a joke surely?
A core issue is the size & go forward of our forwards,& we have numerous small back row options,& we go out & sign another one at 31yo?
We shld only be signing up & coming juniors or genuine 1st graders, not other clubs fringe 1st grade discards,& not at 31yo….feels like Sheens is still calling the shots on this stuff!

Dear BP Tiger, I am inclined to agree with you.

In response to your post, our colleagues tell you to “be patient”. Can I just say that I have followed the Magpies / Tigers since 1959 and so far my team has won only 1 premiership. That’s right, just one. How patient is a man supposed to be?

In contrast, for example, one of my closest friends, with whom I have attended many matches over the years, follows Easts. They had a bad year last year, so they opened the cheque book and, voila, they are in contention for the premiership.

We, on the other hand, are moving, slowly, but surely, to assembling a competitive team which, if all goes well, will be competitive in 2015\. That is assuming the young, untried halves, don’t turn out to be duds.

Forget 2014 however: we might give the eight a shake, but that is probably the best we can hope for.

It is all very frustrating, but what is the alternative? There is no alternative really, but to hope that the ‘slow and steady’ approach will win in the end.

Yes Richards and Koro are small wingers and would say Taupau and Sue are also small backrowers yep things haven't changed really.

I reckon we got one or two more signings coming our way before seasons end or the off season

Well someone asked our ceo any more signings from out side the club he said we have to wait and see so there could be more on the way.
