West Tigers’ Mitchell Moses says team has confidence for NRL finals push

HE’S sorted out his future with the Wests Tigers. Now Mitchell Moses has his sights set on playing finals football this year.

And ahead of his 50th NRL game this Saturday against the inform Bulldogs, the 21-year-old playmaker gave his insight into why “everyone is believing that we can actually make the eight now”.

While the Bulldogs have won their last three games to jump into the NRL top four, the Tigers are now just one win outside the eight on 16 competition points.

Since the Tigers were belted 36-4 by the Bulldogs in round 10, they have turned their season around, winning four from six games to have them well placed for a late season charge.

“There is actually a new-found confidence around the club,” Moses said.

“Everyone is just realising what we can actually do now. We can actually match sides at the top now.”

And that’s what they have to do this week when they take on the Bulldogs without their star fullback James Tedesco who is away on NSW Origin duties.

Fox Sports Stats show just how important Tedesco is to the Tigers’ attack. While Luke Brooks leads the way with 15 try assists this year, Moses and Tedesco are locked on 10 try assists.

Tedesco has also scored 11 tries (Brooks and Moses four each), while Tedesco has 12 linebreaks compared to Moses’ five and Brooks’ two.

“It is a big task without him but we are looking forward to the task,” Moses said.

“It is probably just going to have a bit more pressure on myself and how we finish the sets off and how we set up tries.

“I am stoked for (Tedesco). He deserves it. He has been through all the injuries and everything and he has worked his arse off to get back.

“I am just happy for him and hopefully the Blues get a win for him. I think he will have a lot of pressure on him. Queensland will be definitely be testing him out. I am sure he can handle it.”

Moses also deserves credit for his quick-fire milestone, chalking up his NRL half century in just 51 games since debuting in 2014.

“It has come up pretty quick,” he said.

“I think I have only missed one game since my debut and that was this year. I am pretty excited.”

He said making the recent decision to extend his stay at the Tigers has only helped him focus.

“That was my reason why I held off on the decision,” he said.

“I just wanted to get my footy right and once I felt like my footy was right I made my decision. “And I think I am at a good place at the moment.”

Yes just the usual spin, but a winning football teams makes a massive difference when thinking about contract renewals. Hard not to be optimistic about the future and the clubs ability to retain the players they want

yeah screw him for trying to maximise his earnings in his 10 years of playing FG, assuming his body holds up and he lasts till he's 31.

i'd do the exact same as him, and i bet most of the forum would too. i'd also leave my job for another job if they offered me 6 figures on top of what im earning now (the difference alone would be more than most make)

Add Tedesco coming off contract aswell. I really hope somehow we can keep Tedesco, Moses and Brooks for the next 3 or 4 years. If we can manage to lock them up, then i can see us winning a premiership in that time. Our team and roster is really coming together nicely, just need to keep the spine together and the mighty tigers will be back up there again.
