Western Suburbs trial team named

Well done to the club for being on the front foot. The jerseys looked like the 2018 Wests Tigers jerseys with the ISP Magpies sponsors. Anyone get a close look??

1 - Gamble - Played in the centres for most of the second half. 7

2 -Aloiai - Ran hard for 10 mins, scored a powerful try then dropped away, made a couple of silly mistakes. 6.5

1 -What do you think this was about Balmain Boy, where Maguire might use him? Its a little odd but we do have Reynolds and Marshall locked in.

2 - Same year same same. Needs to kick on our Josh.

Also with Jock Madden and Tommy Talau coming through in the halves , it’s a good time to test Gamble in the centres.

In the future, would be the best option moving to centre in my opinion. His muscle mass has increased significantly over the last 2 seasons which would also effect his fitness playing 80m in the halves. His grown into a frame that is pretty much tailor made for centre. He has finesse, but can also be aggressive & can scramble well on D - has a decent dab kick on him too.

Just testing his versatility i'd say. He can run, pass and put in a kick or two. Could be a Jamie Lyon type centre. He may be unlikely to play first grade at 6 unless there's injuries but we are short on depth at centre. I'd say he's our 4th choice centre, as i expect Fonua to be elsewhere within the next couple of months after it becomes clear he won't be playing much first grade here. Gamble wasn't tested at all though.

Talau and Madden represent some forward planning by the Club and it is interesting to read Madden's comments on Brooks. It seems only a short while ago we were discussing Brooks' development but now he will have a role in Madden's development.

It’s an interesting thought. Hopefully they have a full season ISP this year and develop into NRL players. One day we might see Brooks 7 and Talau 6 or Madden 7 and Brooks 6\. Who knows. I happy the club has got some Australian rep juniors into our Top30 as development players.

What about that half from Balmain SG Ball…?

If Talau and Madden play ISP, Illias could certainly have played Under 20s. Which half are you speaking of,, Camroux or Illias? We lost Douehi previously who has turned out to be a genuine NRL centre or half. Seems to me the identification and retention of local juniors is also important with the addition of quality external recruits.

If you are incapable of accepting a bit of criticism perhaps you are a bit thinned skinned for this forum.

Shame because Clark looks the part , he is a massive body

Might be a case of looks like Tarzan ….plays like Jane

Lets hope he is a late bloomer

Illias

Perhaps you miss understood was asking if he had definitely gone to Souffs..

I also believe both Madden and Talau will be up and down between Flegg and ISP once the season proper gets under way and both NRL and ISP line ups are settled..

While I haven't seen any of the games in full, from the highlights I've watched it appears to be Camroux at 5/8 setting up the tries rather than the halfback? The halfback may be a great organiser though?

Good to see Balmain doing well in the lower grades this season, while the Magpies are still incredibly disappointing.

Souths have signed two with the possibility of three players from Barker including RA's best performed young player last year, a forward named Reimer.

Illias was Balmain SG Ball previous year so talent identification and selection at Balmain is spot on. Remember Douehi also played league and rugby.

The club has had its best junior recruitment drive in years so I don't want to appear to be overly critical. It is just disappointing to lose a player of this calibre having made a number of rep teams including the Aust School Rugby side.

I think you’ll find both will start in 20s. I watched the game on Saturday and am still on the fence with Madden but he would’ve learned a lot from the game and if he doesn’t start in ISP he won’t be too far away. I rate Talau slightly higher as a half at this stage and has the size to handle opens. Both are very talented but did come from a losing Australian schoolboys team which hasn’t happened for a long time.
Since Dave Warwick came onboard the recruitment has improved massively especially the young signings.
Also a good report from Balmainboy

Dogs's supporters complaining that our two starting wingers in the ISP trail were their juniors!. Apparently the offer to Talau made by the Dogs was poor and in Bradley's case, a Dogs' supporter advised their recruitment guy (our former one) didn't believe he was good enough for SGBall so he moved to the Dragons.
