Wests Magpies Bundy Cup 2013

It was just reported and made public on 2UE Sports Today program that the WSDRLFC Board is pushing for a Western Suburbs Magpies Bundy Cup Team in 2013 to replace the loss of the Magpies at the NSW Cup level, the Second Tier level of Rugby League, believing this will suffice and seen as the Magpies still being represented at the 'senior' level of the game. A WSM Bundy Cup will just basically serve as a purpose for Wests Tigers to send their excess/overflow WT NSW Cup and WT NYC U/20's players back to. It would be Campbelltown based Team.
**WT NRL + WT NSW Cup (Concord Based)
WT NYC + WSM Bundy Cup (Campbelltown Based)**

Sounds like a reasonable proposal to me.

I'm an ex BT now WT supporter & I see that as a great solution to appease the Magpies supporters so they can still see them running around at senior footy level. I will even keep a tab on how they are going & will support them like i do all our lower grades.

Good on them… Hopefully this will give some of the old diehards some satisfaction.

Smartest thing I have heard for a while on here!

Id prefer the Magpies to be in the NSW Cup but this is the next best outcome.

Keeps the Magpies Club alive and provides a senior rep side for the South West of Sydney

So yeah, Sounds ok to me???

I think the WT NYC side would be better served training at Concord, but any U20 who shows promise will most likely be promoted to train with the NRL side outside of NYC anyway.

Good outcome. I hope Balmain hang around too, but even if they don't it's nice to see the Maggies still alive at senior level.

Excuse my ignorance what is the bundy cup comp? What age group play in this comp?

Good move. Hard to fault them for this. The time is right to move on at state cup level and this way they keep the maggies in a senior team status. Alexaki, Bundy Cup is effective the grade after State Cup. Correct me if i'm wrong someone. It's basically the old Metro Cup i believe?

Most NYC players come from Campbelltown + Keebra Park

bundy cup is the sydney metro based competition for over 20's so if u dont fit into nsw cup or too old for NYC you will be sent to bundy cup. Newtown and Wentworthville have played in bundy cup for many years. Most sydney clubs are linked indirectly to Bundy cup teams.

x2\. They could very well end up being one of the stronger sides too with a structure like this.

Dunno where he got his info, but he did no research clearly - Tues night John Gibbs announcedWests Magpies would be the sole team in State Cup linked to WTs, no BRET, no WTs SC team….clearly a few ensuing emails had him doing his homework and he broadcast the clarification the other night after speaking with Mick Liubinskas.

Good move imo

That was a incorrect reading on air. WT nsw cup is a done deal. The bundy cup proposal is being pushed by WSDRLFC separate to WT and does not affect the proposal of a WT nsw cup team. WT will be funding WT nsw cup team… WSDRLFC will push ashfield to help establish a WSM bundy cup team (not as costly as a nsw cup team)

If this eventually succeeds can only strengthen the whole group and keeps a senior foothold in the MacArthur district for the Magpies, as mention previously could be a very strong squad!
