CAMPBELLTOWN Sports Stadium will be handed back to the city this week following the completion of $8 million of upgrades.

The work will make it one of the best facilities in the NRL, and local fans are hopeful it will entice Wests Tigers to play more than just a handful games in the region each year.

The upgrading included additional seating for 3685 people, new elevators in the western grandstand, disability seating, improved toilet, catering and media facilities, and a new portable electronic screen.

The stadium can now accommodate 20,000 fans, 13,500 of them seated.

Campbelltown Mayor Aaron Rule said the redevelopment ensured a Tigers/Roosters blockbuster on May 2.

“It’s going to be a fantastic occasion,” he predicted. “Campbelltown is welcoming a brand new football stadium and welcoming home the Tigers.”

They say the stadium can now fit 20,000 but it could already fit 21,000.

Remember in 2005 we got around 20,500 people against the Cowboys and there was still room for atleast another 500 people.

Eventually given time they should be looking at increasing that capacity towards at least 25K. Though it has been mentioned as a possible World Cup venue for 2018 or 2022\. In which case they're look at turning it into a 40K seater stadium.

one of the best in the nrl…....?????

hmmmm...me thinks not!!

Off topic...Kate Ellis looks better in leather...

You know what would entice 'more than a handful of games'? Consistently good crowds. Which now with these upgrades, there is no excuse for the first game of the year to not be near sell out.

It's good that the upgrades are complete and it should ensure a big crowd for the Tigers V Roosters. I'm expecting payback in that match in front of a big home crowd.

photo's look good.
is there any news on the works/proposal for the walkway/bridge to get people over the train line.

I find the 'disability seating' part to be bs.
I rang the tigers last week to see if I was able to get seating for my 4 year old daughter who is in a wheelchair in the newly refurbished grandstand only to be told that the only available seating for us is in the eastern stand. We would not be guaranteed this though as the eastern stand is general admission and they will probably be taken!
If anyone has the CEO's email address it would be appreciated, might have to clarify this as my daughter wants to see her first tigers game this season.

It will be unless it looks like it's gonna rain.

Wow, that is really poor form in my opinion. They are capable of better and usually do better than that.

The Stadium looks great.

But in reality the upgrade has brought it up to the bare minimum standard of a subarban NRL ground.

The next stage should be an extension of the Western grandstand to run 120 metres from dead ball line to dead ball line.

Apparently the facilities for the players are as good as anywhere though.

Something like this would be better . . . . .

came back that email is invalid!

I can only reccommend calling the club again and seeing who in authority you can speak to.

In past years I have seen one family with a young fellow in a wheelchair sitting in the front row of the lower tier of the Western Grandstand. They sat on the edge seat at the North end. Full ramp access to that area with no stairs at all. Unsure as to whether the new additions have altered that at all.

I've been trying to find photos of the new upgrades. In the members email the Tigers sent around they have obliged:

I haven't heard anything about extra seats in the grandstand itself. I think all the extra seating is along the terrace on the Western side and either side of the Eastern Side grandstand.

What they have done is replace all the existing seating throughout the ground and upgraded the corporate seating in the Western grand, including a new function room that should hold a few hundred people…
