WESTS TIGERS BEAT ROOSTERS 20-0 IN U20S TRIAL

Wests Tigers recorded a strong U20s trial win over Sydney Roosters at the Sydney Football Stadium tonight.

Played over two 40 minutes halves, Wests Tigers were never headed in their 20-0 victory.

Wests Tigers opened the scoring in the 14th minute when half-back Liam Ayoub faked a pass before diving over from short range to score out wide. Five-eighth Jacob Miller failed to convert for a 4-0 lead.

Four minutes later, a grubber kick from Miller 10 metres out saw centre Tim Simona dive on the ball to score for an 8-0 lead. Miller failed to convert.

Two minutes before half-time, a nice ball by Miller found Simona in support who offloaded quickly to send winger Faleula Finau over for a 12-0 lead. Miller converted the try for a 14-0 lead.

2ND Half

The Roosters had a few attacking opportunities early in the second half but poor passes or some desperate cover defence by Wests Tigers kept them at bay.

Wests Tigers extended their lead to 18-0 when centre Limoni Kamuta hit a gap in the middle before sending five-eighth Jay Bonnell on a 15 metre run to score near the posts.

Ayoub converted the try for a 20-0 lead after 70 minutes.

The only main injury concern to Wests Tigers was to winger Faleula Finau with a leg injury late in the game.

Wests Tigers will now head into round one of the U20s competition on the back of two solid trial wins over Parramatta and the Roosters.

Wests Tigers 20 (Liam Ayoub, Tim Simona, Faleula Finau, Jay Bonnell tries, Jacob Miller goal, Liam Ayoub goal) d Sydney Roosters 0.

Pretty good effort from the team tonight. The Roosters boasted a big pack but never looked like getting the better of the Tigers who used an effective defensive structure all game. The forwards were all pretty good and the backline with Miller controlling things were also good. Miller in particular has a good set of hands with a great passing game and a good short kicking game. Ayoub looks more composed than last year and found open space plenty of times with his long kicking.

Hopefully Finau is right for round 1 but this squad looks to have good depth and should give the comp a fair shake if they play to potential.

It is early days but this team played well tonight and always had the game under control. I haven't seen them in that position for some time now given the way they fell away last year. Hope they have a big season and if they make the GF (I know a long way off and the make up of the team has changed) I hope they don't get robbed like they were against the Storm.

Groat put on report for what the Roosters player claimed was a bite to the ear from what I could see

Made some good runs from fullback and looked to get a little bit involved in the ball-playing from time to time.
His returns were strong like his brother, but he did have a few drops and poor passes in typical Tagive style.
Overall though he looked very promising

Very interested in how Tagive went too, anyone?

I was really impressed with Tagive. He played 1st half at fullback. He attacked the ball when it was kicked and returned it with speed. He played the 2nd half on the wing and didnt get much oppurtunity, I was sitting down his wing side and he is a great talker, constanly talking to the boys in offence and defence. If injuries hit, or we have a few out over the rep period he could come in for an nrl game or two. A good prospect.

Cheers, that's great to hear! I'm hoping he can get Beau's wing spot as soon as he's ready.

Miller looks a quality player & tagive could be really handy as the season goes, i would like to see tagive in the open with a bit of room to move. Both these players played well.
