Wests tigers can't handle criticism

I have read the rules of this site and I am not breaking any by posting this.

The Wests Tigers have become the first club to have a number of posters on another popular rugby league forum banned. These posters (and I'm not one of them) had not broken any of that forums rules, however the forum banned them after 'heavy pressure' from the wests tigers football club.

This isn't a campaign to get these posters reinstated, nor is it a complaint against that forum ( I can't blame them for banning the posters after the pressure from our club). I am actually wondering if this forum has had any contacts from the club at all?

Personally I would think the club had a lot more important things to worry about then what people say on a forum. What is currently the biggest problem facing the Wests Tigers club? Is it our back 3's inability to defuse kicks? Is it our paper thin defence? Is it out players lack of enthusiasm or lack of urgency? Is it Tim Sheens selections? No, it is what people say about the club on a an Internet forum.

I have been on many clubs forums for rugby legue and other sports. Let me te you our club gets off extremely easily compared to some other ones and not one of these has ever attracted the clubs attention.

Surely out club has bigger issues to deal with then what goes on in here an elsewhere on te world wide web? This is just another sad reflection of a club that proven time and time again to be in constant denial of it's own problems and instead focusing on menial trivial issues as mentioned.
 
To my knowledge this current forum has had no input at all from the Wests Tigers club.

With the previous incarnation of the forum the only time the club made direct input of any significance was when Scott Sattler lodged an official complaint with the club after the Gold Coast signed Scott Prince and he was the target of alot of hate here.

Than again unlike LU (I assume you are discussing LU) there is a tight reign on here when it comes to crossing the line with personal attacks in that the admins try to stop things going to far. LU has no such process. At least one of the posters you refference had been banned before from LU for some pretty disgraceful comments and re-appeared under a new identity.

You can say that the club has better things to do and I agree to an extent but you must also balance that with the knowledge that it is the Media Departments job to get a positive image out therre and maintain it for the growth of the club. Considering the Telegraph have been known to source stories directly from that site in the past and some of the comments on there speak of inside info that a paper could cite as "unnamed sources" I can see the point of the action regardless of whether I agree with it
 
Well fergie, the club is well within its right to have posters on forums banned if it is deemed serious enough. Without going into any specifics regarding other forums, i have seen some of the threads and posts made and they are sick and vile and if posters have been banned at the request of Wests Tigers, then that's all well and good. Some of these people are actually breaking the law with what they have posted.

At the end of the day this forum is operated independently of the Wests Tigers, however we do support the club and the last thing we want is this forum filled with hate-fuelled negativity towards the club and players. What the Wests Tigers as a club deems as being serious issues is for it, and it alone to decide and act upon.
 
I agree that the club is being over sensitive if it is worrying about a couple of posters who push the boundary a bit.I know the posters your referring to and I actually find them entertaining even if I do cringe every now and again when they push the limits.
I suppose as club they feel they have the responsibility to protect their employees and some of the attacks are very personal so from a legal point of view they are covering their arse. Sad but we live in 2010
 
No doubt this is in regards to the Moths being banned from LU.
Mulvi and his MOTH followers have been banned from just about every forum there is, including this one. I'm sure the reasons are obvious. He has a history of it too as he was banned from the Tottenham supporters forum and supporters group years ago for pretty well the same reasons. The guy and his buddies just can't control themselves and it's sad because clearly they are passionate and love the club.

Have the Wests Tigers contacted this site about it? No.
Have the Wests Tigers ever contacted this site about anything? No, but have they ever had any reason to?

Importantly, we've given them a direct email address and told them that if they ever wanted to chat about anything then we're always open.

FastEddie was pretty much just a tirade of abuse on LU, but the sad thing is that he usually had a fair point. His delivery could've been handled a lot better of course, but i still think it's a bit over the top on the club's part.

if a family member of a player went to the club and asked if there was something they could do about some of the posts ,do you believe the club should just stay out of it.should they just tell them to harden up.
i'm not saying this is what happened,but it wouldn't surprise me.
i'm not sure how i would react if some of the posts i have read over the years were directed at my children.

if someone in marketing was involved,what the hell do they have to do with our on field play.

seriously.how much time do you think was spent on this.probably less time than you are spending with this thread.

i have read some of the stuff on LU and i have to say its not only WT supporters that come out with some utter garbage on there. i prefer this forum much more. this fasteddie character does get a bit too personal with what he posts but like someone posted he does generally have a decent point. i find myself agreeing with alot of what he says. he just goes overboard in certain areas and i can see how a players family would be upset with some of it.

i dont know, it may be a little precious from the club. if they complained about his insults then fair enough but as i said his criticisms of our performances and his opinions on what direction the club we all go for makes should be allowed to be heard. we are not all positive all the time about WT. myself included. these are forums i guess and as has been said the club should be concerned with other things IMO. it obviously gets back to them, its already been brought up once before with fitzy
 
Fergiefurr, thankfully you're clearly in the minority here and I personally applaude the club for it's approach and stance on disgusting and vile posts made by faceless cowards on other forums. I am proud of the stance this forum has with Mulvi, Fast Eddie, Man On The Hill or whatever he wants to call himself and the rest of his mob. Their vulgar views are an embarrassment to the true fans who passionately support their team with pride, respect and humility. For a forum of the size of LU to not only allow sicken posts in their their threads put to have their moderators participate in them is poor forum in my opinion. The day this site stoops to that level is the day I walk away. If anyone shares the views of Mulvi and his mob, please let me know because I'll personally hold the door open for you on your way out.

Kudos to the club and all involved on their stance with Mulvi and his views.
 
I should add though, credit goes to LU for removing the sicken posts from FastEddie and banning him even though they got leaned on to do it.
 
Bon, if a family member complained then yes I would say fair enough by the club.

My point is i think the club is way too precious and if they spend a second worrying about this then it's one second too much. Why are club employees scouring forums looking at and reporting negative comments, I'm sure there are a lot more productive ways to spend their days.

I run a small business and 2 years ago sent in an email enquiring about sponsorship oppourunities, it toll 3 and a half weeks for someone to get back to me. If I had if said 'sheens sucks' on a forum I bet they would have noticed it in a second.

What's it going to come to? One night at a pub I'm discussing sheens selections with my mates and start calling him a few four letter words. The next time I go into the pub the manager says 'sorry mate, the tigers called me, someone overheard you saying Fitzy is a moron, you can't come back in here.'

Am I going to get kicked out of campbeltown on Sunday if I yell at a tigers payer when he drops the ball? Seriously the club needs to harden up.

how is an interent forum different to discussing te Footy amongst mates in the pub?

LU shouldn't get any credit because as you said they had to get leaned on to do it in the first place.

Quite simply as I refferenced before a slew of vitriolic posts leads to negative press. It happened earlier this season during our losing streak where people like Rothfield picked up and ran with it.

In turn it creates negative publicity.

Again not defending it but surely you can see the correlation
 
Sorry I should also add that I put no one had replied to my sponsorship enquiry on a site and within an hour someone replied to my email. No word of a lie.
 
Wests Tigers can't handle critisism….......I think the can...What they shouldn't have to handle is the vile vulger coments directed towords players and the organisation in general,,,,something we don't allow on this forum...pretty simple....I could just imagine as bon pointed out how some would react if it was directed at their families...

Oh well just gives the dozen or so posters on the WT LU forum something else to discuss I supose...

i'm sure you could be alot more productive in your life if you didn't visit forums as well.
who is to say this isn't done in someones spare time.

i'm sorry fergie,but sending an email to do business is very poor.from my experience as a business owner an email is a great way to be put at the bottom of the pile.
of course it isn't acceptable,but it is reality.
may i suggest sponsoring a junior league team.
gave it a try last year and found it very rewarding.actually looking at changing my business model so i can add more teams.

with this type of thing,i like to see the full facts.
you are pointing your finger,but i have no clue who it is pointed at.it could be a number of people.
it could of started in a number of ways.

as for the rest of your post,come on.
a bit of reality would be good mixed in there.
 
Would I be more productive if I spent less time on the forums? He'll Yes! I tell myself this everyday, I could probably sack one PA if I spent less time on them lol.

As for email, move into the 21st century mate. The majority of my business is done via email an is by far my clients preferred method of communication.

I actually started sponsoring a local soccer team this year and your right, it has been a fantatsic move.

Im no lawyer, but the difference between chatting in a pub (thats gone as soon as its said) where as posted messages on the net are either libel, or slander….a legal issue I think.

As people and organisations in the public eye, NRL players coaches etc should expect criticism, as well as plaudits.
Politicians, entertainers all gotta cop it from an ever increasing snooping media. If youre in publc domain youve gotta take the good with the bad....that said the crap that is directed by those in question is waaaaay over the top.

PS take Bons advice, my sons Balmain Jnr club next year could do with a great supporter/sponsor :wink: Keep it in mind
