WESTS TIGERS CONGRATULATE DANIEL GEALE

Wests Tigers wish to congratulate Member Daniel Geale on becoming the new IBF middleweight champion of the world.

The Campbelltown boxer beat Germany’s Sebastian Sylvester in a split decision in Germany this morning to win the biggest fight of his professional career.

He has become the first Australian to win a world title fight in Germany after failed attempts by Anthony Mundine and Danny Green. Geale joins Jimmy Carruthers, Lionel Rose and Jeff Harding as the only Australian born boxers to win a world title overseas.

The fight was scored 118-110 (Geale) 118-112 (Geale) and 118-110 (Sylvester).

"I feel on top of the world, I have worked so hard for this over many years,'' Geale said.

Geale’s professional record stands at 25-1\. His only loss was the IBO middleweight title to Anthony Mundine in 2009 in controversial circumstances.

A regular at Wests Tigers matches with his family, the man nick-named 'The Real Deal' has put Wests Tigers players through various boxing sessions over the past few years. He has formed a close bond with the Club.

In February, Geale joined fellow Wests Tigers Member and now new NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell in helping Wests Tigers win the Battle of the West Membership drive.

Congratulations Daniel from everyone at Wests Tigers.

A soflty spoken, well mannered tough guy from out west via tasmania. A genuine home grown world champion and a great ambassador for boxing.

Congrats Daniel

Well done Daniel. you've achieved something special, winning in Germany when the so called certainties in The Man Mundine and the Green Machine failed.
