Wests Tigers keen to take Matt Moylan off Cronulla’s books

If we don’t get a quality forward out of this, we haven’t come out on top. We are lacking sorely in that department and won’t make the 8 imo if that doesn’t get the attention it requires.

@The_Patriot Marshall at 9?

Sorry havnt been on here for a year or so but I have been reading people's possible teams and it makes you sad that we will just be another bottom 8 side next year.

Numbers come out a bit odd on here. @The_Patriot is most likely saying - 6 Moylan 7 Marshall

Yeah the numbers on here are dumb.

I was saying -

Fullback - Brimson or Lomax
Centres - Momirovski and Talau or Mybe

**5/8 - Moylan**

Halfback - Brooks

**Hooker - Marshall**

Bench utility - Mybe to cover hooker.

I’m also liking Marshall to hooker. I thought he provided us with great direction towards the end of last year & enabled the team to gel really well - probably the best all season! Maybe we take this approach until Liddle is back on the field & 100%.

I’d prefer Reynolds at 5/8 & not sure about Mbye at 14 as I thought he was improving at centre. But even without any of the potential signings coming into fruition it does show we have some sound options at centre, hooker, 5/8, etc., as long as they’re all 100% fit!

Would be great if we’ve could sign the likes of Lomax & Brimson. More importantly I’m really hoping we bolster the pack as a priority.

I really don't think Benji could be 9 all year as he body would not take the workload and we cannot afford a hooker that defends in the centre position.. Might work for a few games but not all year..

How about Corey Thompson for No 9 quick around dummy halfcould be another Damien Cook

This should sort this post out - Moylan is contracted to Cronulla until the end of 2021, with both he and his manager rebuffing the Tigers approach. He doesn't want to come to the Tigers

@Elderslie_Tiger He would do any position the coach asked him and he is about the size of the Eels hooker.. Not too sure on his passing game through.

Sometimes that is code for "I want to profit out of this". Could be that's he's trying to get the Sharks to pay more, the Tigers to pay more or both...or it could be that he genuinely doesn't want to come here (fine with me!)

@Tigerlily it wont be a swap with the sharks, they will release Moylan , pay portion of his massive salary and they will officially sign ramien.
tigers will be able to use the money by releasing matto to sign Moylan

Hence why this signing will start the off season transfer market with those 2 being released

And your source for that information would be? Seeing as you seem so definitive with your response.

That guess has some legs .... Madge will not be paying Squillions$ for any such deals. And Sharks don’t need a second row forward .... they need cap space $s.

Agreed momo, hopefully there’s nothing to the rumour and that it’s just a really quiet week for the news corps...The next couple of months of contract discussions is going to give us a real insight into how Madge see our club leading/building into the future, so any signings are going to be very telling in my opinion for the future success of our club and Moylan definitely doesn’t fit that criteria of success for me.

Overall it's not a bad thing if he doesn't come here. We need to spend the money elsewhere. We'll need another decent second rower to make up for Matterson going if he gets released. Problem is I am not sure if there's another decent second rower in a situation like Matterson was at the Chooks for us to pick up on the cheap.

As some have already mentioned, regardless of my thoughts on Moylan - this is not a 'favourable outcome' for us.

We need a strike forward for Matterson not another dodgy back.

Good news!

https://www.nrl.com/news/2019/10/23/merrin-gives-up-nrl-return-amid-player-market-stalemate/

Wests Tigers were linked to Cronulla playmaker Matt Moylan on Tuesday as a possible circuit breaker, a move that would allow the Sharks to ease their salary cap woes and precipitate Ryan Matterson's release.

Matterson has met with Parramatta with negotiations progressing positively between the two parties, however, the Tigers are determined not to grant the disgruntled forward a release unless they get something from the development.

It's understood a Tigers official made contact with Moylan last week to gauge his interest in a move to Concord, with an eye to replacing Benji Marshall in the halves when the club legend eventually retires.

Moylan is contracted to Cronulla until the end of 2021, with both he and his manager rebuffing the Tigers approach.

If the few posts above are accurate I don’t see this as good news. I accept that it may be media rubbish but there seems to be a steady retort from players saying they do not want to come to the Tigers. If there is a perception amongst players that we are a no go zone, it must be addressed. We must change to alter the perception. It definitely is not good if no one wants to come here.

How can Moylan come here if he is under contract until end of 2021?

Yep. that's the bigger issue. It's starting to feel like last year again.
