NYC live trial: Roosters 24 lead Wests Tigers 6
Wests Tigers soaked up some early defensive pressure from the Sydney Roosters inside their own quarter in the opening five minutes.
The pressure paid off down the other end of the field five minutes later when hooker Nofoa Leapai darted over from a short dummy half run. Two plays earlier, half-back Jack Madden went close to scoring after good work by five-eighth Matt Mulcahy.
Mulcahy converted the try for a 6-0 lead to Wests Tigers after 10 minutes.
The Roosters drew level midway through the first half through a soft try under the posts through half-back Tyler Cornish. Centre Brendan Elliot converted for a 6-all scoreline.
It became 10-6 to the Roosters a few minutes later when forward Shaquille Blair crashed through three defenders to score next to the posts. Elliot converted for a 12-6 lead to the Roosters.
2nd Half
The Roosters extended their lead a few minutes into the second half when forward Alex Thomas used his strength and size to score next to the posts. Elliot converted for an 18-6 lead.

Roosters beat Wests Tigers 24-6 in NYC trial
Wests Tigers suffered a 24-6 loss to the Sydney Roosters in an NYC trial at WIN Jubilee Oval, Kogarah, today.
In a match played in wet and windy conditions after being switched from Allianz Stadium late yesterday, the Roosters dominated possession in a good performance that would have pleased their Coach Paul Green heading into the start of the season.
For Wests Tigers, Coach Todd Payten would have been frustrated and disappointed with the performance from a side that has now recorded a draw, a win, and a loss from their three trial matches.
Payten fielded a strong side for the trial including several key players from the premiership winning team last year but with plenty of hard work over the next fortnight, he will have his side right for round one against Newcastle.
Wests Tigers certainly have the talent and depth to again be a strong force in the NYC competition this season. The Roosters will also be very competitive judging by today’s performance.

Went to Kogarah for what was a less than average performance . Potter was there watching/sitting with Payten who body language (and language) said he was also less than impressed. Heaps of basic errors, no real cohesion in attack, defence and go forward was good when Santi, Brown Lovett were on the filed and referees blew the pea out of the whistle.
Hard to tell what will happen in the first comp game as the key forwards - Santi, Brown Lovett only played around 30 mins but one thing is for sure they will miss Koro & Nofu and will need to find/settle a halves combo quickly. The standout for me was Santi-the guy is a machine. Cherrington played in the halves and looked sharp. Vela was average and probably just feeling his way back after 12 months out with injury. Kitt was less than average and Mulcahey appeared to try and take over Millers organising role without much effect.
Off to Alliance for the State Cup now ..hope we play better thqn the weather

I agree 100% Snowleopard! I also think Leapai had a good crack at Hooker today too! Sorry to correct you but Cherrington didn't play in the halves today, that was Rudolph.

Well if the team played that poorly then 24-6 is probably being kind to them. From watching the trial against the Eels, the wingers worry me this year too, there's no abundance of speed or tackle breaking ability that Koro and Nofo had last year. Still, Mitchell Moses should make a difference to the attack when he returns from injury.

I agree 100% Snowleopard! I also think Leapai had a good crack at Hooker today too! Sorry to correct you but Cherrington didn't play in the halves today, that was Rudolph.
Sorry hadn't seen Cherrington before …was he 17? From what I saw Rudolph played most of the game at FB as Rowe was out.

The wingers really worry me too but I think todays selection's in Hoeter and Simona are the best options atm to replace Nofo and Koro, its just a shame the weather drew the play down the middle and not out wide!
Mulcahy did have a day to forget but IMO while Moses isn't available Payton needs to settle the halves with Mulcahy and Rudolph. Kitt has skills but I feel this is the strongest pairing atm.

All good mate! Cherrington was No. 21\. Madden was the No.17 and yeah I thought he didn't do too bad either, his defense was strong today. Rudolph mostly played fullback today but Payton moved him into the halves early into the 2nd half and switched Hoeter into fullback.

Thanks..agree with you on Leapai..we have certainly got hooker covered across all grades
The 20's definately need Moses or Brooks back to help run the team, Rudolph has to be in the halves. He got the team playing better when moved to half but he will need 1 of the mentioned to help him out. Unfortunately Madden and Kitt just don't have the attacking skills that these 3 offer and Mulcahy is still learning to play in the halves and needs time.

Yep agree flash..think the forwards will be ok but they need an organiser and field position kicker fast or will risk dropping games early in the season and having to play catchup. Does anyone know when Moses will return?

I think Moses is due back at around round 5.
I was actually surprised with Rudolph's last tackle kicking on Saturday too, only because he hasn't really shown that side of his game with Miller taking the reigns with all the in field kicking last season! IMO Rudolph playing along side someone like Moses or Brooks and given the time to settle, we could have a very damaging halves pairing! Guess we just have to wait and see if Todd is thinking the same way! LOL

Well TC Rudolph is still there and was picked at HB before Rowe pulled out so TP must have some plan as it is unlikely Brooks or Sirro will play NYC this year. As you no doubt know Rudolph was in the mix last year up until the last couple of games and for whatever TP decided to go with the spine of Rowe/Mulcahey/Miller . DO you know why he dropped Rudolph?

Yes I do. All that TP told Rudolph was that 'it was a business decision'! I don't know where 'defensive deficiencies' came from but i do know this was not a reasoning given to Rudolph himself.

Only one person can answer that! Lol
In saying that, it can only make Rudolph a better player and he seems to have used what happened as a motivator so good on him and good luck for the season!
