Wests Tigers NYC team to play Roosters

Wests Tigers NYC Coach Todd Payten has named his side to play Sydney Roosters in a trial match at Allianz Stadium on Saturday, February 23.

The match will be played at 5.15pm as the curtain raiser to the Foundation Cup match between Wests Tigers and Sydney Roosters. Gates open at 3pm.

Payten will be looking to continue to build on the solid platform set in the 40-30 trial win over Parramatta at Campbelltown Sports Stadium last Saturday.

Brendan Santi in the front row is hard to understand. He's lucky to weigh 95kg and I daresay the Roosters will march out a pack of giants. I really like the backrow though.

The two big boppers who weigh over 110kg barely got a run last week, and they're not there this week so Payten's either not happy with them, or he's rolling the dice with a mobile, fit forward pack which can tackle all day. This can work provided the ball control is good and they don't have to work overtime in D.

i think hes more around 100kg now.im sure he will handle any position hes made to play at.will more than likely play his usual role 30+ tackles a game and 100m plus in attack.yes the pack looks mobile,but just remember last year the roosters pack was huge,and the boys handled them fairly easy.

I don't know…Lovett is 100kg and Santi isn't, or doesn't look as big as him. Anyway, I love his workrate, he tackles anything that moves and is always in the thick of it. Looking forward to seeing what Andrew Vela can do this year.

Santi looks like he has put on a heap of size, The difference between prop and lock these days is not what it used to be, they both play in the middle, the biggest difference is the order and amount they are supposed to take the ball forward. At a guess, Santi and Lovett will both be playing half way between lock and front row, sharing the ball carrying duties, we should be very good defensively in the middle with that line up as well.

A little surprised with the choice of hooker, and glad Rudolf is getting a crack in the starting team, thought he showed great promise last year.

What happend to Jarrod Scuduzi (i dont think that is even close) but the prop who played Bundy cup and a bit of NYC last year, i was under the impression he was a likely NYC prop?

Yeah, the poor fella was coming back from a shoulder reconstruction, then did his ACL during the pre-season.

What was the name of our hooker from the NYC Premiership winning side?, I have forgotten. I thought he was pretty solid without being too flashy. Where is he this year…still with WT?

His name is Ben Saunders and he's taken the year off to focus on his studies! It's a shame as he was such an imperative part of the team last year but I fully respect his choice of sacrificing a season to prepare himself for life after footy! I have no doubt if he chooses to come back to footy he can be a success as he is a talent!

The new hooker Nofoa Leapai has the potential to be just as good though! As he showed us against the Eels he's fast out of dummy half, runs the ball up hard, backs himself to split the defense and has some good vision for the offloads too…... He just needs more game time to settle and find his groove within the side!
He's also a very polite, respectful and well spoken young man, I wish him all the best for the season ahead!!

Rudolph hasn't played a lot of halfback and is still learning the position but he's the kind of kid who just wants to play and will always give it 200% no matter what position he plays.

Yeah it's nice to see Rudolph get a crack in the starting side. Agreed he does show promise and has played well in the trials to date considering Todd has been throwing him around from centre to fullback to 5/8 and to halfback! LOL
It also seems like Rudolph has been a bit on the outer with Todd's squad preferences since dropping him before the last round and without a real explanation, which seems to have carried over for 2013 squad selections as his profile is not on the website anymore.

This is a STRONG squad. Todd definitely has his best out there and if the forwards can front up strong and hard allowing the backs to work their magic, IMO will be tough to beat on Sat.

I gotta say I'm liking the choice of wingers too and adding the strong passing game of Mulcahy and Rudolph, IMO I see plenty of strong tries being scored with these boys on Sat.
