WESTS TIGERS RALLY AROUND FLOOD VICTIMS
16/01/2011 9:12:22 AM

Current players will be joined by former club greats when Wests Tigers visit the people of Ipswich this week as part of the Greater Western Sydney NRL teams QLD Flood Relief Project.

Wests Tigers, Parramatta, Penrith and the Bulldogs will each send a group of representatives to different regions of Ipswich to help with the clean up. Wests Tigers have been designated the town of Brassall and will spend two days there from Tuesday.

Wests Tigers will be represented by approximately 13 players from the NRL squad including captain Robbie Farah, Benji Marshall and Queenslander Lote Tuqiri. Joining them on the trip will be Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys, Coach Tim Sheens, and the likes of former Balmain and Wests legends in Paul Sironen, Steve Roach, Arthur Beetson and Noel Kelly.

“We all very much feel for the people affected by these devastating floods. We hope to use our profile and our physical presence to help in any way we can with the clean up,’’ Humphreys said.

“We want the people of Ipswich to know that we are behind them and we hope our presence might help lift their spirits.”

Outside of the clean up activities, the four teams will meet at the Brothers Club for dinner on Tuesday night before being transported to the Evacuation Centres to meet and greet the flood affected locals.

On Wednesday morning, the teams will then visit local junior rugby league clubs and assist with clean-up of facilities as well as take part in a coaching clinic.

“All of the boys have been shocked by the devastation and of the images we have seen on television,’’ Farah said.

“We are really pleased to be able to help the people of Ipswich and we will do whatever work that needs to be done.”

Wests Tigers encourages supporters to donate to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal by ringing 1800 219 028 or by visiting major banks.
