Wests Tigers re-sign Thomas Mikaele

I like Mikaele he plays hard and has potential. Errors are the issue with both Tom’s in the team.
1 year deal fair on both sides.

As others have said a 1 year deal seems about right

Could be dominant if he wanted to but gets lazy in defence and can't hold the bloody football

Mikaele has so much potential that he'll probably end up fulfilling at another club. Here's hoping he can get it together next year.

No issues with the 1 year extension purely for the fact we haven't bought any props for next season. I'd like to see him improve his fitness and work rate as he has good leg speed and can dent the line. Biggest problem is his handling and lack of urgency in defence - this bloke is our strongest player in the gym, he should damn well be flattening blokes that run into him but always just looks to hang on and wrap up the ball.

I don’t think Mikaele and Nofoaluma understand how much of a difference it would make if they just ran straight and hard. I wasn’t going to be too fussed if we didn’t re-sign him. He lacks footy IQ as most our team does and has hands like feet. Has potential but he’s going to have to really crank it up a bit if he wants to reach the heights Utoikamanu is heading to.

I think you summed it up perfectly.

Agreed. That “hang on and try to wrap up the ball” style is way too common in our team. We should be burying the shoulder and driving them backwards but instead we hang on and run alongside. Why can’t we learn to be aggressive in D - it’s the same with our line speed. In Attack, it’s jog on up to the defence and submit to the tackle.
Where’s the fire and brimstone, the mongrel desire to want to flatten guys or smash them out of the way??
Let’s stop eating Kale and start eating red meat!

Agreed...

1.1 tackle breaks a game is very poor for a bloke his size.

And, as you said, he never really belts anyone on D also.

He looks like he will fall into that Sue, Ava, Chee Kam etc etc mold of being "just another fringe first grader"...

When he came out of Keebra Park, he was being mentioned with the really elite guys. He will be 24 and almost all of his group have gone way past him.

Good News

23-year-old Prop - His best is ahead of him.

We’ve said that about a player a time or two

Hardly a ringing endorsement by either side of the deal.

Cheer up mate

He's over 50 nrl games now I reckon he should be further ahead in his development than he is but I put that down to our coaches
As. Sparty mentioned props generally mature/develop later
