I would say that the club does not think he is worth what the option dictates he would get so they declined it.This way we would get him on a cheaper contract because lets be honest he did nothing this year that was worth perservering with.

Off course he could take that option but i doubt any other NRL club would be offering him any other deal.He would probably get a more lucrative option to play in the ESL but i would be suprised if he took that option because of the distance he would be from his family.
The thing is if he got his form back he would be offered a better deal from the club than the one he had this year.It really is up to him to get it right

I think the fact we have just started up with the indigenous pathways, it would not be a good look, he will probably add value to that in the long term?

Yes, and I can see him staying in the club after he retires as part of the Indigenous program.

I like it. Resign him, he's turned a corner with his life and will continue to be a leader amongst the group mentoring the younger indigenous players coming through.
