Roberts has played 11 games for the Tigers.

Doesn't seem like an ideal extension as we need FG ready centres desperately and he struggles to even make it on the field.

If it's cheap then it isn't the worst....
However extremely underwhelming.

Recruitment for 2022 has been very poor.

Fat Lady hasn't even opened her mouth yet. Be patient Demps, long way to go yet.

Be patient?

We're talking about a player who's been sacked 3-4 times in his career. Who's had huge issues with fitness, and with controlling himself off field and getting into incidents. He's almost 30. Why does anyone think he'll magically change now? And of all clubs that we might be able to turn a player from rubbish to great - how many of those gambles have paid off for us historically?

There is zero gamble here?

Reckon James still has good footy in him.

Just needs a decent pass to run on to.

Exactly an assistant coach that actually could devise an attacking structure will work miracles for James . He needs more than two meters from the sideline to work with that’s all he had with Brooks and Douehi running sideways on every play .Still has plenty to offer with decent inside men.

I don’t care if he is on 30 bucks a year, he is taking up a valuable contract spot that could be used to sway a young kid with a potentially high ceiling to our club. Jet is probably a top guy with some problems, but his days as a NRL footballer are shot. Sure give him a role with our indigenous system, but don’t block a roster position

He is not. He is on a trial and train contract, not a roster spot,

Totally agree if you put him in one of the top teams he would still be one of the best centre’s in the competition look what happened to Momorovski.
Roberts is a better centre than all the ones we have available including Talau, Kepaoa, Kei & Hoffman & how they are above him in the top 30 is unbelievable.

I agree mate... I cannot remember the last time he was given some good ball early...
Hopefully Hastings helps fix this as he has pace to burn unlike most of the squad and on min wage if he makes the top 30.. Very Smart move

Stop it, you're killing me. Did you see Roberts playing (badly) for Souths in 2019-20? He was barely first-grade standard then, so how's he going to be "one of the best centres in the competition" now? Also, if he was capable of being "one of the best centres in the competition" how come he is available to the Wests Tigers on a train and trial deal? Don't you think, I dunno, Melbourne might have offered him a contract?

Personally I don't have any issue seeing if Roberts could still be a worthwhile backup considering he costs basically no money and doesn't even need a roster spot. But seriously, come on. The guy hasn't been a *good* player since mid-2018 at best and there's basically no chance he ever becomes one again.

So do you think Talau & Kepaoa, who both drop the ball regularly & Hoffman who is so slow & Kei who is unproven deserve a spot before Roberts if so then stop you stop it because you are are killing me.

Sorry, I must have misunderstood. When I read "if you put him in one of the top teams he would still be one of the best centre’s in the competition", I took it to mean you thought he was capable of being, y'know, one of the best centres in the competition.

If you'd said, for instance, "I think James Roberts is capable of being one of the best three or four centres on the Wests Tigers' roster" I would have responded differently. Perhaps: "Personally I doubt it but he's probably worth a train and trial deal to find out, which is exactly what we've given him".

They're all bad. That doesn't mean Roberts is good. Roberts is the worst though as he is bad and old. He also played for one of the best teams in 19-20 and sucked so your point is mute

Had hoped that Jimmy would come good this season but the opportunities just never seemed to be there for him. He did manage to score a couple of tries and each time he did, I thought that will do his confidence a lot of good and that it just might be what he needs to turn the corner.

I really don't know what it is, is he injured, has he lost his pace, is his head in the wrong place still, or are we just that bad that we have no idea how to use him to get the best out of him.

Glad we are at least giving him some sort of a chance and really wish he could regain some of his best form, not only for the benefit of Wests Tigers but even more so for his own confidence and self esteem.

TBH. I can’t get past his terrible defence, especially in that Cowboys game tribute to a Wests great Tommy, where he and Nofo just let them walk past them?

Pascoe keeps selling us on senior players who were good four years ago and lots on here don’t get why we lose.

Spot on mate, we need gritty defensive players to get out of the mire.

From memory Souths were in the Finals both of those years. Correct me if I am wrong but Roberts was the center there alongside Dane Gagai, later being replaced by Campbell Graham? Barely first grade, try def first grade. Yes he passed to AJ and AJ scored the tries. But a good center does that.

Ofcourse that is 2019-2020 but lets be serious, then he was at a high level of performance.

Now? I don't know if we will get the best out of him. He either needs pressure or Security.
Clearly though McGuire hasn't brought it out of him. Lets see what Sheens does. No performance this year he can go.

I expect him though to be back in First grade week 3.
