Wests Tigers sign John Sila for the remainder of 2014 and 15

Titans have a couple of good ones. Brad taikarangi (sp?), Maurice Blair is a really good play I think and obviously zilman can easily go in a centre.

I think what Dugan, hoppa and Beale have shown us is that you need to be a very good footballer to be able to play in the centres. I don't think any of them played in the centres when they started but are killing it there now. I reckon even josh Hoffman would be a good centre.

If Matt Duffie can get over his injuries he would be an astute signing. Moses has one of the best bombs I have ever seen and with Duffie's perfect leaping ability it will give us a massive advantage. For me personally I would want something like this for next year….

1\. James Tedesco
2\. Matt Duffie
3\. David Nofoaluma
4\. Tim Simona
5\. Pat Richards

Duffies leap and speed are sensational to watch. We also have Taukafua & Hoeter in the lower grades pushing for a spot.

Wests Tigers sign John Sila

Mon 23rd June, 06:48PM

Wests Tigers are pleased to confirm the signing of Canterbury-Bankstown winger John Sila for the remainder of the 2014 season as well as 2015.

A star of the Holden Cup over the past two seasons, Sila amassed a total of 42 tries in 33 games since his debut in 2012.

The 21-year-old Griffith Waratahs junior is a renowned try-scorer, highlighted by his 2013 NYC effort of 23 tries in just 11 matches.

Sila will train with the NSW Cup side and had his first session with the squad today.

“It’s a really exciting opportunity for me to join Wests Tigers,” Sila said. “I already know a few of the guys here like Marty Taupau so I’m fitting in comfortably. I still have a lot to work on to get to where I want to be but the dream is to obviously one day play NRL.

“I have to keep on training hard and hopefully one day I will get a crack at first grade,” he said. “I was in need of a fresh start and I’m ready for a new challenge."

"I thought the best place for me was here at the Wests Tigers and I’m really looking forward to making the most of this opportunity.”

Wests Tigers Recruitment Manager Warren McDonnell said Sila would be a welcome addition to the Club.

“John is a big, powerful winger who will certainly add depth to the squad,” McDonnell said. “He has come over from Canterbury looking for an opportunity and is a prolific try-scorer.

“The big chance for John will be when he trains full-time with the NRL squad in the upcoming pre-season.”

Hopefully he gets his chance and does prove to be a handy pickup. Good luck to the bloke.

Sila needs development. the Tigers are after a centre that demands to be picked every week.
William Chambers has all the skills. Hasn't received as much of the accolades as others.. He has come back from Union a better player. Good foot work and strong.
. Beau Champion and Dylan Walker play well every week, as does Morgan.

This signing shows the club is thinking long term and at the same time is balancing the salary cap in the short term.

Sila would be very cheap - short term salary cap benefits

Sila only played two years in a rep system (no Harold Matts or SG Ball - He will have a lot more development potential left

Sila has two years to sort out his defence and he knows that he will get the opportunity if he earn his spot (Pat will retire 2016)

He could develop into anything…

Good buy. We won't know till 2016\. Enhancing our mid term development pipeline is great.

Yep. I can see the logic in signing Sila. As Mccarry points out.
However, we still need to be on the look out for a good defensive centre that can put a winger into a gap for 2015\. Sila won't fill that role, he could one of the next crop of WT wingers to replace Richards in 2016/17.

The other centre is Auva'a from Souths

Has potential in my opinion

Off field issues; there were some dramas with domestic violence from memory. I wouldn't sign him

All the names mentioned sound good. Would be happy to take Copley, Morgan or Duffie. The Storm have heaps of outside backs now, surely they'll be looking to let a few go, even if not off contract? Justin O'Neill has been running around in State Cup a few times this year. Would take him as well.

I wouldn't go near Duffie

Lots of injury concerns

Massive risk
