There was some terrible things happened in our past…. Many don't like it and don't acknowledge it.
Truth hurts

what truth hurts innsaneink, yes we all know it happened, but none of us were hear to stop it or for that matter had bugger all to do with it. the longer people want to blame someone for what happen before they were born is rubbish. the NRL the AFL need to stop these indigenous rounds or we will never have a country for every one it will always be divided.

You mention blame in both your posts….there is no blame in the article, or this thread whatsoever....its a historical story, yet you are so defensive...it obviously hurts you.
That truth BP...its clear because youre so defensive about this

As an analogy the Holocaust only occurred grandparent era ago but it is still so raw and memorial ceremonies are held every year, museums are still being opened in it's dishonour.

Maybe we should not elaborate too much so as not to contaminate the thread.

The article was supposed to be about Jamal's future now he is coming off contract with a bung knee. He turned it into a whingefest about "racist Australia" including a delightful anecdote about his career criminal grandfather. Quite good comedy really he should quit footy and go on tour with other racist ex footballers like Joe Williams, Adam Goodes and Anthony Mundine.

Some of us were here were old enough to help stop it. I attended rallies **in the sixties and seventies** against racism in employment, accommodation etc.. The big Sydney Harbour Bridge Walk was only about 15 years ago. John Howard only about 15 years ago still earnt the backside of Aborigines in Fed Parliament.

**It is only Jamal's grandparents** we are talking about, and he is still a young guy. My grandparents go back into 1880's and I still have strong emotions for them.

How come every time I read this guys posts I imagine Alf Stewart at his computer frothing at the lips.

Thats the point, its current year. The guy is 2 generations removed and still bangs on about how racist Australia is, grinds my gears when I hear that. Ive lived abroad for over a decade in various countries, Egypt, Israel, China, Thailand etc etc and traveled through 100+ countries, Australia BY FAR is one of the most welcoming countries in the world, hands down, its not even close. People that say Australians are racist are generally ABC watching self hating liberals that havent traveled beyond their small town country limits, ok, maybe you went to Sydney once in the 80's and you did boycott channel 7 to remove Kingswood Country cause he mentioned Wog in every episode, flaming racist, all Australians, Bloody racists!! Jamal should try moving to China with his skin tonne, see how he gets on there. Better yet, try being a white guy living in Zimbabwe, oh yeah I forget the thinking of modern day libtards, Blacks cant be racist, white privilege and all.

Agree 100%. When does it stop? I can see my great grandkids listening to the same thing. I sympathise with the actual people it actually happened to but sooner or later you have to move on.

National pride is a myth. How can you be proud of something you have no control over? Its like saying you're proud to have blue eyes or proud at how tall you are.

Idris is finished as an NRL player I think. Sorry, but thats my ruthless assessment.

Already too slow this year and now done 2 knees.

Sounds like a lovely guy, but we can't afford to carry passengers that are done like Ballin in the playing squad.

Would be a big no from me.

Probably not a stretch to say his career is done. I don't think he loves it enough to have the drive to come back.

I'm still waiting on Denmark to issue an apology for raping and pillaging my ancestors village 1000 years ago. I find it hard to go on everyday being a victim that I am. However, baby steps, I wake up every morning and put one foot in front of the other. It's pretty hard sometimes being the victim that I am, did I mention that already? It was nothing directed against me personally and has nothing at all to do with society today but ya know it was only 1000 years ago, people need to hear and understand this. Victims from generations ago need to be brought up today. Identity politics and victim cards need to be played. I have no personal agency, I find it hard to take responsibility for my own actions sometimes because ya know, I'm a victim through my ancestors.

"Wears Tigers star Jamal Idris…"
Jeez the word "star" gets used pretty loosely these days.

I hear ya mate. I'm still waiting on an apology from the Germans for my great uncle dying in the war. It's so hard to get out of bed sometimes, I often just don't turn up to work but my boss understands I carry around a heavy burden. I worry so much about what my children will do and how they will cope.

Mate my great great grandparents or something like that that I don't even know must have been Irish beacuse my surname is Irish. I've had it worse than the lot of you.

My dad went to hospital basically every day when I was a young kid. Geez I've been hard done by.

Dad was a doctor.

Do you guys carry on about holocaust survivors when you watch Schindlers list? Actually, maybe I don't want the answer to that.

If a white Zimbabwean told you how Mugabe had persecuted their family would you say "get over it!"

As a footballer he is cooked, but if he wants to tell his family's story, good luck to him, you can choose what you care about and so can he.

It makes it easier if you put "libtards" at the start of your post.

There is some deadset rubbish being served up in this thread, painful to read the opinions of dinosaurs. We mourn our lost soldiers, we sympathise for people experiencing hardship, and we invest emotionally in the fortunes of a bunch of blokes playing a game in matching outfits, yet put our fingers in our ears for this?
The "it wasn't us that did it" argument just simply doesn't cut it, I'm sorry. Muslims across the world cop abuse for what they wear, the colour of their skin or what imaginary friend they believe in, all because of the actions of the very, very few. Homosexuals in various parts of the world are being embarrassed, arrested, beaten or killed for the people they choose to love. There are genuine atrocities going on across the world and the bystander phenomenon is in full swing, "get over it" just isn't enough.
That was Jamal's dad. Who cares what you think, that bloke is literally his own blood and you're complaining that he shouldn't care because it didn't happen to him? Take a break from the One Nation, Australia First, whichever divisory vitriol you subscribe to and let humans be humans. I know if my dad had suffered like that I'd be pretty rightly aggrieved. This is fresh stuff, this is recent history and not something we have any right to earmuff our way through.
We _celebrate_ Indigenous round, just like we _celebrate_ Women in League, they're there to champion sections of our community, not divide. So celebrate them! Stop pretending you live in a perfect world and all these problems are made up because you didn't experience them so anyone else's feelings must be irrational.
I'll gladly read my fellow forumer's opinion on our game and beloved Tigers, but if you pretend for one second that some of the opinions presented here have any sense of legitimacy then there's much bigger problems in your life.
Won't be visiting this thread for a while so feel free to sh*tpost away, that way of thinking is on the way out and the world will be a better place for it.

As for the topic, I'd love to see Jamal back but would perfectly understand the club (or many others) not taking a risk on him. All the best to Idris in his career and his life, he's definitely got the attitude to go far and live everything the way he should. We need more people like him.

Jeez there are some bleeding hearts on here. Next some of you will be crying that we need to take in more refugees or that we need to change the national anthem because it's racist. Fair dinkum some of you need to get your heads out of the sand.

Here's a solution, lets just stick to talking footy shall we?
