Wests Tigers support Relay for Life
Wests Tigers centres Blake Ayshford and Tim Simona attended the launch of the Inner West Relay for Life in Balmain recently.
The players presented organisers with signed Wests Tigers jersey to use for fundraising purposes.
Relay For Life is a fun outdoor overnight fundraising event where teams of up to 10-15 people take turns to walk or run around an oval to honour the lives of people touched by cancer. It’s not a race and participants can do as many or as few laps as they wish.
Teams are encouraged to camp out overnight, theme their outfits and tents and do something about cancer in their community in a simple and social way. It’s a great team-building or family fun event, there is something for everyone!
Relay For Life gives us all the opportunity to take action against cancer in our community - by raising funds that go towards vital research, support services and education, and importantly by giving people the opportunity to celebrate survival, celebrate life and remember those that we have lost to this disease. Relay For Life spreads an important message of hope.
Over the weekend, participants will experience three important ceremonies honouring the courage of local cancer patients and their carers.
Relay For Life provides a wonderful opportunity for the Inner West community to contribute to change in the cancer landscape and join together with us to beat cancer.
The concept behind the 24 hour events is that cancer never sleeps. So can you take 24 hours out of your life to fight back against something that consumes the lives of those affected.
Relay For Life is worldwide and is the biggest Cancer Council fundraising initiative in Australia, bigger than Daffodil Day and Biggest Morning Tea combined.
