Wests Tigers Head Coach Michael Maguire has updated his 19-man squad to take on the Canberra Raiders for their Round 18 clash at GIO Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

Kickoff for the match is at 5:30pm AEST as Wests Tigers look to bounce after back-to-back defeats against a Canberra side firmly entrenched in the top four.

Maguire has confirmed a change for Saturday's game with Corey Thompson ruled out of the match due to a minor ankle injury picked up in Round 17.

His omission sees captain Moses Mbye shift back to fullback after spending the past three matches in the centres, with Michael Chee Kam moving in to the run-on side.

Luke Garner joins the bench for his first NRL game since Round 8.

Rookie Tommy Talau and experienced forward Chris McQueen have both travelled with the squad to Canberra and remain in the 19-man squad as reserves.

Final team lists for both sides will be confirmed at 4:30 pm AEST on Saturday.

Expect changes...

I have no problem with Madge's selections - in my book he's made the necessary changes when it has been evident that players have repeatedly under performed after being given a reasonable go at their position. Within the realistic options that are available to him, Madge has stuck with the guys that have shown him something, and explored replacements for guys that have not performed.

For example - he has moved Jennings out of centre to the wing, and now out altogether, he kept Noffa out when he deserved to be, Fonua as well, Thompson to fullback when Mbye wasn't performing there, he's bringing Liddle on for Farrah more (as Liddle proves he can handle it), he's rotated our props that haven't performed, also he has rotated the lock position, he has played Reynolds when and if he's deserved it and not when he wasn't up to it, and now he's looking at another goal kicker (although that change took too long in my view!).

With what he's had to play with - I am not sure that he could have done much more. Take a realistic look at the teams fighting it out for 8th position - Panthers, Broncos, Sharks, Cowboys and us. Honestly - we don't have a roster anywhere near as good as any one of those teams!

@TigerSJ Yet we have beaten two of teams you have noted, Panthers, Broncos as bigger chances than us for the top 8.

True we have beaten them this season when they played at less than their best, and last season we beat the Storm and the Roosters and then lost to the Dogs and the Titans. I am not sure that one off wins or losses make a case that overrides the fact that our roster is not up to the standard of the teams we are competing with for 8th spot.

Agree TigerSJ. He has standards and demands them as much as is possible with our roster. I’d add that he has demanded a professional attitude from the leaders and Benji Marshall has responded thus an extra 12 months.

well this is a surprise

RIP in Garner

Canberra have a suspect backline this game.
Simonsan, Oldfield and Croket can be suspect defensively. If we can keep it close early points will come on the edges.
