@GNR4LIFE It was to my understanding that there is a top 25 to 30 players to select from. Mikaele, McIntyre and Smith all available for selection this year, as far as I know...

Lily you can't play in the NRL game unless you are named in the 21 man squad named on Tuesday..An exemption must be sought for a player not named on Tuesday to play...NRL may grant them if no options are in reserves to replace the injured player..in this case with Thompson able to replace Mbye at fb and Nofoaluma taking his spot on the wing the NRL wouldn't grant an exemption for say Dylan Smith to play..but yes he is eligible to play NRL this year... if he was named in the squad on the Tuesday..he could have taken Mbye's spot

Cheers! @Geo I was thinking along the lines of Tuesday’s 21 man squad was just a formality (dead line) for the media outlets for their publication etc . Didn’t realise it was so regimented by the NRL.

It was actually introduced to appease the betting agencies in a case where you had a star player coming back from injury not named on a Tuesday then bam..named an hour before kick off with a miraculous recovery causing a betting plunge..

Johnathon Thurston a few years back was the catalyst..

It was evident when we played the Pamfers a few weeks back with Kikau looking at long odds to play but was named in the 21 so he could play..if he wasn't named and was fit to play he wouldn't have been allowed..didn't help em but..ha ha..

@Tigerlily They are actually very strict rules now!

Every Tuesday at 4.00pm Sydney time, each club will announce a 21-man squad consisting of 17 "Active" players named in position, with a maximum of four additional players named as "Reserves". (The Warriors squad will be released at 3.00pm Sydney time [5.00pm Auckland time] on Tuesdays.)

Then 24 hours before each game kicks off a 19-man squad, only from players included in the initial 21-man squad, is selected with 17 "Active" players named in position and a maximum of two additional players named as "Reserves".

Then one hour prior to kick-off a final team of 17 active players is confirmed, only selected from players included in the 19-man squad.

Clubs wanting to bring in a player from outside the 21-man squad or the 19-man squad after they have been announced must apply for an exemption which will be evaluated by the NRL's Head of Football on a case-by-case basis.

If Nofualuma is playing a repeat of his performance v south's last season would be good

I can't remember but sure he had about 5 offloads

Team confirmed and as expected: Mbye and Fonua drop off, Nofo to wing and Thompson to fullback.

Fonua wasn't there to begin with was he?

Get up and in the Burgess brother face, with a bit of niggle.
They will give away penalties, maybe even end up in the sin bin.

@gallagher he wasn’t originally but NRL had him there yesterday as a reserve. Maybe he came in for Garner mid-week? Dunno.

Oh right, cheers.

@cochise that’s what I’m thinking.

Either way, let’s see what Nofo and Mermirivski* have got. Dig in boys.

Interesting Rothfield article on page 59 of today's Daily Telegraph re the refereeing during Saturday's match.

He notes that with 27 minutes to go and with Wests Tigers still in with a chance the penalty count was favouring Souths 9 - 2. At this point Wests tigers were playing the ball but Cameron Murray was standing clearly in frot of the Wests's dummy and interfering with the play the ball. Sutton looking directly at the play the bal failed to penalise Murray. He highlighted this year's huge refereeing inconsistencies and why referees like Sutton cant't referee one side but not the other.

I was distracted with kids throughout watching Annesley, but I didn't hear a single mention about anything from the TIgers game. Are we being biased, or do we just have to expect that level of blatant bias against us?

I watched those reviews at the start of the season and they are such baloney that I stopped. Just baloney upon baloney justifying some rubbish decisions and criticising others.

I'm not a ref hater and I reckon they are doing a pretty good job 2019, but to have this peanut come on stage and selectively review and selectively comment on certain plays is just dumb. As soon as the journos ask him pointed questions, Annesley is like a deer in headlights because he doesn't know 100% of the detail on every play, nor does he have a rule book in front of him.

Maybe it's improved lately and I'm giving them the short shrift, but from the sounds of it they are just the same.

So when Mugface comes up and tells you why JWH should have been sin-binned, as everyone freaking knows he should have been, but they don't say anything about that bogus Cam Murray try that even Boozehead Slothfield called out, it just angrifies the supporters.

The ref's presentation was pretty stupid. It had white writing on a green background trying to show statistics. Anyone can tell just by looking at it, that white on green is terrible, you can't see it. Amateur stuff.

And what are they doing being proud about they have given less penalties than last year? It's about getting it right, not fewer. Honestly, rolling a dice would be more fair, even if the dice were loaded.
