Wests Tigers to part company with football boss Kelly Egan

The one signing that Madge brought to the club so far is the Plodder of all Plodders Jennings .. this leaves me very uninspired for future signings by the coach !

Justin and Madge can get it done. If they add Gus so be it but id be confident in those two taking care of business.

I agree .... things are overcooked at times in our game.
And this is one area.

Of course it could all be about getting the football operations budget in order as the NRL are introducing a cap on the expenditure club are allowed to pour into this area.
Although you would think it’s more about something else

Shame to hear Kegs is leaving

Obviously has something to do with Pascoe being back in a few days

And Musgrave 😒

Who has been responsible for our Flegg signings? They seem to have recruited an excellent batch this season.

Egan swung for some solid names that were successful in the very short-term in Packer and Matulino but that are now duds. And Reynolds really could be anything except the body seems broken. Those are signings that will get you sacked.

Wayne Lambkin I believe is looking after the Flegg signings. Someone can correct me if I have it wrong.

@supercoach The Football Operations cap has been in for 2 seasons, it's why Cleary will not get sacked from Penrith, at least in the short term, they are currently paying Cleary and Griffin out of their cap

@krayola I think Matulino has been much improved over the last few weeks. I'm not giving up on him yet. Packer ...?? Not so sure.

Wests Tigers have today confirmed that General Manager – Football Kelly Egan will depart the club in the coming weeks.

Since joining Wests Tigers at the end of the 2016 season, Egan has played a vital role in the rebuild of the club’s playing roster, while also strengthening a number of the club’s junior development programs.

After continued involvement in a variety of roles and clubs over the past 27 years, Egan will be relocating to Brisbane in a role outside of Rugby League.

He will depart the club and rugby league at the end of June with the full support of everyone at Wests Tigers and will be heavily involved in the transition process.

Wests Tigers Chair Barry O’Farrell thanked Egan for his tireless efforts and commitment over the past two-and-a-half years.

“On behalf of the Board, I would like to recognise Kelly Egan for his hard work and commitment to Wests Tigers,” O’Farrell said.

“Since his arrival, Kelly has shown a relentless desire for excellence and has provided tremendous leadership for our entire football department — from the NRL squad right down to our junior pathways programs.

“Kelly has overseen the development and growth of our overall football program as well as strengthening the ties to our junior clubs.

“He certainly leaves Wests Tigers in a much stronger and more competitive position than when he arrived, and we have no doubt that he will be greatly missed by the Board, staff and everyone at Wests Tigers.”

Egan added his gratitude for the opportunity at Wests Tigers, and said he was thankful for the support shown to him throughout his time at the club.

“Wests Tigers is a great brand with a resilient and emotive fan and membership base,” Egan said. “I have really enjoyed the challenge and opportunity provided to me by the club.

“There is never an easy time to leave a club and a job you feel passionately about and it has been a dream to be involved in sport for such a long period of time.

“It’s been an emotional decision, but one that is done to put my family first and I’m looking forward to being able to spend more time with them again.

“Key leadership is a vital part of an NRL organisation and I have been privileged to witness that during my time with the club in Head Coach Michael Maguire, Chair Barry O’Farrell, former Chair Marina Go and CEO Justin Pascoe,” he said. “As a result, I have full confidence in the strong future of Wests Tigers — both on and off the field.

“I’m excited to see where the club will continue to progress in the 2019 season and beyond and will continue to do my absolute best to ensure success for all at Wests Tigers.”

**With Egan’s support, Wests Tigers will now begin a comprehensive process to appoint the club’s new General Manager – Football in the coming weeks.**

How unusual for Tigers fans to jump the gun and assume we were letting Kelly go, i.e. some sort of Madge-related clear out.

@jirskyr Yes, it seemed rather dignified, but the press release was just well worded, the club needs change I'm afraid. Players will get cut @ the end of the season and we'll be looking @ assistant coaches as well. New dawn, new day. Finally

The old regime has been part of the problem - the systems are the same. New chairman/coach & Centre of Excellence ushers in a new era. You old boys better get with the program. Things are changing.

Not many people seem to like Madge......take Packer for example...he retired (representatively) not long after Madge got appointed NZ coach and now can't make the 1st grade side!
