THE Wests Tigers want to make Tamworth their long-term regional home, hinting at a huge deal to bring more games to the country music capital…......

Bathurst council's first 5 years agreement with the Panthers was worth $1million.
They now have a 10 years agreement with the Panthers, no one know the financial terms of the new deal as it was done in a closed Council meeting.
The benefits to Bathurst are enormous as the amount of people that fill the town for the weekend brings a lot of tourism dollars here.
The Panthers also get a huge cash benefit out of the game, not $20K like Tamworth kicked in to the WT.

Penrith going to Bathurst is logical due to the finances but also the location. About an hour and a half away? Youd think south west NSW would make more sense for us than Tamworth. Maybe Wagga or Albury.

Wagga would have been a great choice, due to the population of the city and the surrounding towns, as long as we were getting more than $20K from the local council or the NRL.
Wouldn’t you think that the NRL would have enough grey matter to take all these 6pm Friday games to the regional areas.
Each one of theses major regional cities could get a crowd of 10,000 plus that’s more than they get at some of these games in Sydney, and it wouldn’t effect the majority of the Sydney teams Saturday and Sunday games.

Great call about friday night 6pm games. Greenburg really is a dud.

Yeah that is a good idea, although the councils aren't going to want it because they're not going to get as much coin in through tourism. Put it on a Saturday or Sunday and supporters will make a weekend of it and spend some of their cash in the region.

Penrith v Cowboys here got over 10,000 for Friday night game, I know it was the 8pm game.
From Thursday the town was buzzing with out of towners all the accommodation was booked out, the pubs clubs and eateries were doing a great trade.
A lot of people make a weekend of it.

Tamworth is a thriving city and is a traditionally strong rugby league area. It is a good move by the club. Bruce Sinclair came to Balmain from Wests Tamworth and David Brooks played at Tamworth and represented the Aust Schoolboys from McCarthy College, Tamworth.

WT need to set up an academy in Tamworth if they are going to have a long term arrangement there, and embrace the whole of Group 4 to develop their junior players as future WT players.
There are nearly always one or two players in every Country division that could be developed into an NRL player.

Yeah let’s play Newcastle there every year and pee 2 points down the toilet each time.

Yes I support what the club are trying to achieve but success comes through winning football games and making finals. Every 2 points is vital.

Better still can we sell the 2 points to Newcastle for more than the $20k we are receiving to play at Tamworth? That would be a win-win :crazy

I would have thought somewhere south west would make more sense for us, instead of north west. Could Bowral host a game? Is Goulburn too close to Canberra?

They also own the biggest club in town, so it makes sense the keep a visible profile

I don't like how easily we throw away a potential 2 competition points by giving away the home ground advantage.

I get that moving matches to all these far flung places generates money and new fans … but you know what else generates money and new fans ... winning games!

Yeah…it was the locations fault we lost that game

Jesus!

Never understood that premise. Good teams win everywhere. If you're relying on home wins you'll be up the proverbial when finals roll around.

It's not so much the location, its the support. if you have the crowed behind you that is certainly an advantage. Can get you home in a tight one.
