Wests Tigers have successfully taken out their first challenge of the new season, defeating the Panthers and Eels to claim the inaugural ‘Battle of the West’ competition.
With just over 1000 supporters signing up in the past 10 days, the Wests Tigers were able to hold off the strong finishing Penrith Panthers who finished less than 40 memberships behind.
Wests Tigers will now receive $10,000 from the NRL for winning the Battle of the West.
Over the three rounds of competitions over 11,500 people have committed to a 2011 NRL Club Membership across the nine Sydney clubs that took part in the Membership Premiership, with the victors being the Sharks, Dragons and now Wests Tigers.
Despite the Membership Premiership challenge now being over, it’s still not too late to get behind your club and secure a 2011 NRL Club membership!
First the Foundation Cup, now the Battle of the West…bring on the Telstra Premiership!
Final numbers:
Wests Tigers 1011
Penrith Panthers 974
Parramatta Eels 556
Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys said the response from Wests Tigers supporters had been simply amazing over the past week.
"We have worked hard to provide our supporters with a number of promotions and opportunities to interact with the players this week and we have seen a significant spike in Memberships as a result,'' he said.
"Our crowd attendances are regarded amongst the best in the game and it is fantastic that a large percentage of these crowds will be Members in 2011".
Wests Tigers hit the ground running in the Battle of the West with a strong membership drive at Pitt Street Mall.
Lote Tuqiri, Keith Galloway, Beau Ryan, Geoff Daniela, Andrew Fifita, Junior Moors and Aaron Woods took time out in between training sessions to converge in the shopping precinct to encourage people to not only become Wests Tigers supporters but sign up as proud 2011 Members.
