PLAYERS READY FOR OPENING TRIAL TONIGHT

The benefits of a hard summer of pre-season training will be put to the test in Townsville tonight when Wests Tigers step out for their first hit out of 2011.
A young Wests Tigers side will take on North Queensland Cowboys at Brothers Rugby League Club, Kirwan, in very humid conditions. The match will be played over 4x20 minute quarters.
Wests Tigers Assistant Coach Peter Gentle said players would get a minimum of half a game each tonight.
“It has been a hard and long off-season and the players have all improved their skills so its time to put it to a test,'' Gentle said.
“We are all looking forward to the game. We came up here last year with a young team and beat the Cowboys and we are hoping for a similar result tonight.”

19th min: A try to five-eighth Sean Meaney. Half-back Jacob Miller out a grubber kick through which was fumbled in-goal by Cowboys full-back Shannon Gallant for Meaney to dive on to score.
Full-back Jake Mullaney converted the try.
The game is being played in very humid and sticky conditions on a very heavy and slippery wet field in front of a crowd of around 4000.
North Queensland threw plenty at Wests Tigers in the opening quarter but the defence held firm
