What do you really think about Potter

Mick Potter came to the Weststigers when the club was busted in nearly every way , I feel we have forgotten the mess that Sheens left behind ,there is no use going over all of this again . I have thought there has been something going on behind the scenes for sometime and have posted the same.
Mick Potter probable will not be signed for next season with the reports coming out of Concord, but I would like to add I do not think anybody could of done much better than he has done in just 2 seasons with the financial restraints , poor facilities and the HORRIFIC injury toll over that period .
Who would of thought that the team would of been in the top 8 for most part of the season ,this is probable the youngest side in the NRL and will have the ups and down that youth brings.I am not writing this to support Potter for a new contract on the contrary the club should be on the look out for someone that can take the team to the next level.
So who is going to do this Todd Payten …..he is done now tainted with the knife in hand and personally promoted to fast should of come through reserve grade , Kidwell has good pedigree and had good teachers ? Have heard Brown is coming home ? Taylor has been mentioned has a great mind for the game but terrible people skills there many around that will put there hand up but the bottom line would these types done any better than Potter when given the same hand!
The talk of senior players wanting a change in coach ...are these the some plodders that are not performing each week that we all have been complaining about the same players on huge contracts that the previous management gifted to them .Potter has given this club a new culture and for the most part a very positive one ,no one is perfect do I think he should be given a new contract at this stage I am 50/50 things have to change the structure of the team is non existent at times the attacking options are poor ,what is a shame is the injury situation has taken the momentum out of all of the above , last week there were 3 19 year olds on the field at the same time for god sake! If the club want to replace Potter with Payten well that is change for change sake , if the club have someone that has the experience to take the team to the next level well ok .... I certainly have had a lot to cheer about this season when I thought the wooden spoon was ours for the taking the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Potter is an outstanding coach who has done a great job and is more than worthy of a two year extension. Unfortunately we seem to have an element in this club that wants to cause trouble and seize their opportunity to attack after a few losses in a row (which every club goes through btw).

Similar thing happened at Geelong in 2008 before they went onto become a powerhouse. They used the independent report to get rid of the deadwood that was holding the club back (most of the conditioning staff and hangers on) and be honest with each other about how they could improve.

A key aspect was they wanted improved communication from the coach (who for personal reasons had become withdrawn from the playing group - he had become unapproachable somewhat). But it wasn't just limited to the staff they told Garry Ablett that he was kidding himself with regards to aspects of his training. He turned into the best trainer in the club and the rest is history.

Potter did a fantastic job in rebuilding the team that was in such a mess after the Sheens era came to a end. Now is Potter the man to take us forward from 2015, well I think the jury is still out on that one but if it was my call I think he deserves at least another year.Although with all the politics being played out at Concord at present, I think he is probably a dead duck and we will see a Payten/Kidwell team in 2015.

If we do in fact give Mick the flick, I would be looking at Brown or Taylor, I just dont think iots good to have a situation where the players pick the coach. Anyway lets hope sanity prevails and Mick is given another year or two

This is my thoughts on the topic. He has lost his way a little this year but there have also been a lot of injuries.

He's very laid back in the Stephen Kearney mould. Couldn't imagine him doing a Toovey or Hasler. I'd like to see how he goes with a side that has a decent run with injuries. Picks a great bench every week. Thats one area he has Sheens covered.

Looking at other options, I'm no me convinced that potter needs to stay. We can't replace a rookie coach with another one.

Hopefully we re sign him his a very good coach people underestimate how much were missing the players out we showed what a gun side we can be during the start of the year. Im sure if we have a full team in the next few years will be a gun side.

When Potter got the gig after Sheens, it seemed everyone was prepared for and expected that it'd take at least 3 years for him to make his mark on this team and for us to get a clear indication of his true abilities. Year 1 was basically a slash and burn year, getting rid of players and looking at changing a culture that was for all intents and purposes, poisoned. Year 2 has seen some new blood come in to the team, with outstanding rookies just beginning to find their feet, but nowhere near a finished product. Year 3, should it be granted to Potter, should see the team begin to profit from years 1 and 2\. I for one, believe Potter deserves another year. It would seem a real shame to see him depart before we really get an idea of how good a coach he may be.

I like him. He seems like a no nonesense type of guy that just likes to get on with things. I just wish the powers that be would stop rocking the boat and just let the man do his job.

When Sheens got here he was given free reign to put whatever systems in place he wanted too. Potter deserves the same respect and a reasonable amount of time to achieve results.I dont care if we make the 8, I just want to be competitive and improve week to week.

I think Potter has been very good for the team. And I think he deserves a third year.

Everyone is impatient for a result - it ain't that easy when you start from as low as we were.

I think Mick Potter has done a good job, considering he has the " poison chalice" of coaching positions.
regardless of what he does, no one is satisfied.

the " board" at wests-tigers, need to stand in front of a mirror and have a good, long hard look at themselves.

the players are contracted to play footy, their on field performances, should be doing the talking, not diverting focus away from themselves, on airing their views on who should be coach.

Can't complain at this stage

We have overachieved up to this stage despite a massive injury toll

I think the next two months will decide his fate , but I hope he gets another season

He has earned it in my opinion

I think he's a very matter of fact person who has gotten on with his job as best he can with very limited resources and plenty of media scrutiny. All in all I think he's done well. I guess we'll find out in a few weeks as to whether the club feels the same.

I think that if a NRL head coach is lacking communication skills as Potter is reported to be then he really should move on. He looks like a good guy and all but the ability to communicate effectively is the key skill for a successful coach.

I don't believe this is something that can be taught at this stage of his career (or at the very least not in the time frame required).

He doesn't look to be overly imaginative or creative as well. Our attack has really fallen away and relies on individuals rather than structure to break the line.
