What is the point of having forwards?

When your backs do all the hitups?

If our forwards (Woods excl) aren't there for hard work out of our own end and hitups then what are they there for? It can't be for defence because they are all hopeless in defence.

Farah needs to focus more on organising the forwards than putting on attacking plays. If he sees a play, good, but he is trying to create a line break setting up an attack off every play.

It's simple, guys like Thompson, Blair, Sue, Spence, Pettybourne… they're footy players, not pussies, they aren't shirking their duty, they just need to be called for. If Farah ordered them to get on the burst they would, but instead it's Utai, Koroibete, Tedesco, Reddy on the burst and it's stupid. Farah needs to use our forwards more, otherwise we might as well just run with a forward pack of tacklers.

To take it a step further, there is no foresight to having our wingers in the middle doing hit ups because then when the spread comes on the following play there is no overlap. I saw this a couple of times the other night after a Koro hitup.

When the backs hit it up….its to give the forwards a bit of a breather who have usually just been defending before the kick.

I thought this was pretty obvious...all teams do it

Haha are you kidding or are you just being oppositional for the sake of it?

The Tigers go to the backs for hit-ups the majority of the time. That's why our forwards don't make running metres.

I would prefer to use both Tedesco and Koroibete for the in out play between Marshall and Farah

Potter is preferring to use a more simplistic style for the Tigers to get out of our half

Other issue is with our forwards struggling because they are outmatched size wise that some of them aren't getting back onside until tackle 2 or 3 ,which leaves the backs with no other options

Fowards - 47 hit ups
Backs - 9 hit ups

Dunno what youre watching

I agree with the gist of the thread. We still think we can defy the laws of physics - whether its our playmakers or our recruiters. But for whatever reason we can't quite run round the opposition anymore. Until we can match the momentum of the force coming at us, we'll be running backwards and tackling our way to burnout and more injuries. Our future stars will be busted prematurely. Guys like Sue show that mongrel. But we need more. We need to protect our investments as we build. I agree it should be force up front not future back line stars being encouraged to put their body on the line where possible.

as per the link Insaneink provided, they are runs, not hit-ups. Not to be pedantic.

There's no way that they could say Tedesco made 1 hitup. What makes it a run and not a hitup? The fact that he goes sideways and looks for a gap to get through makes it a run?

Semantics. The backs shouldn't be making dirty runs/hitups as often as they are.

tbh in every team, the backs do the first 2 hit ups coz the forwards cant get back quickly enough.

although, i do agree with you.. the forwards need to pick up their game in hit ups

The point is I don't think there is any direction for them to do so. They need to have big games dragged out of them. They need a rocket on field to get into position.

The point you made about Farah is very true though. He seems to always look for the 'play' rather than just letting the forwards hit it up. I think that's where we are seeing the difference between us and other teams with our forwards. If we just played a normal set with 4 hit-ups and a kick, you'd notice a lot more involvement from the forwards.

Farah's service from dummy half just isn't that good. So many times over the past two years I have seen first receivers having to reach for a pass from Farah. Not good enough for a hooker rated as one of the best in the game.

I watched the Titans game today. Young Irwin, who played off the bench, gives lovely service. How I miss that.

If Farah would focus on the small things in his game he would be a more complete player and we would be a better side.
