LIVE GAME Round 17 versus Knights

Live Game Discussion
Not once did they try and cut back in the inside with a steaming back rower

Pretty sure that Luai turned Sione back inside once. Still, I pretty well agree with the rest of it, with Jarome even having to move to the right to get more ball in their 20 from Api, drawing the defence to create an overlap that others weren't able to capitalise on.

Did you ever consider that maybe we rattled them? Why does everyone simply assume that because a team in the top four gets beaten by a team out of the eight, the simple reason is that they must have been off their game. The whole team. They win how many games straight, then mysteriously drop their bundle against a weaker side. Every time WT win, the commentators can't wait to tell us how poorly the opposition played.
Newcastle had ample opportunities to win that game comfortably in the second half. They couldn't do it. Maybe the pressure put them off?
Ask Penrith why they lost yesterday. Maybe the Cowboys were simply better.

I didnt assume, I watched the game

I agree 100%

That game was there to be won.

I've been pumping up Seyfarth for a long time because he has generally been more diamonds than rocks. I was wrong.

His mistakes yesterday were inexcusable. Back to Cup Big Red.

oh I think we'd actually regret the mid-year run of 52-10, 44-16, 46-18, 16-22 and 68-0.

Your thinking is all backwards. Despite the terrible game today it was there to be won, and if you give us the final 10 minutes again we could definitely have won.

The first thing to get right is to be in every game, every week, down to the end. That's how you play consistent finals footy. As soon as you start having blowouts, history shows you don't win comps.
We will regret it because we should of won. Is that not the point I am making? The difference between making finals and not is winning those kinds of games.

I've been incredibly critical of him, but his defence today was superb. He really battles in attack when AD is halfback. He needs a 7 that is one and 2 plays ahead setting things up to use Jerome's strengths. This is a huge issue at the club. AD's influence on the team demands he stay at either 6 or 7. Luai as captain and marquee demands he stays in the halves to. Yet both play better with either Latu or Jock beside them.

This debacle will continue next year of Luai stays. At best we might scrape into the 8 if we have a great run with injuries. For us to be top 4 team we need Latu to partner Adam Doueihi. Hear Javon talk about how easy it is to play with Latu inside him? Thats what Latu does, he makes life easy for his other half. Doueihi will have a field day partnering Latu.

A huge call needs to be made by Benji, Jerome and the club, otherwise we fail again next yeat
Just no way bunji is going to move his but boy Luai!

Are we the only team that still do play the balls with the foot instead of rolling the ball with your hand now? Wasn’t paying attention yesterday but I saw a few doing that and I wonder why when the refs haven’t called it all year

Exactly it. The effort was excellent and has been all year. I haven’t been able to say that about a tigers team for over a decade. The fact is, our red zone attack is the worst in the competition. It’s a been a problem for us all year. We have dominated so many first halves this year only to not be able to convert territory and possession into a suitable number of points. And then we lose at the back end. For the second week in a row we had to use an interchange player for an outside back injury which doesn’t help.
Absolutely 100% our red zone attack is terrible , Benji needs to get rid of his hanger ons and get some decent help , Dump Hodgo and Heighno and replace just those 2 , Andrew Johns part time would be great for attack , we can’t score points and it’s not just this year last year was the same , no idea close to the line , we had May , Bunty , Seyfarth all getting there ball standing still close in , they only get it if they are charging in , and our coach was on the side line , Benji needs some fresh help in attack

I don’t want to be too harsh on him which i previously have been.
we dropped some simple ball. Him, Api, May
Turuva

We adjusted to weather by putting the offloads away but we forgot to be careful with even simpler stuff.

Tough loss. We only have ourselves to blame

Most depressing performance I can remember in a very long time. There to be won, knights were awful and yet again our big players didnt step up. One I think we will really regret when we miss the 8 by one or two wins
Yes Luai was terrible, he was flat in attack, and the number of one up hits was unbelievable, yet benji stands on the sideline and he can’t get them get deep and use the backline , he has the players respect but Iam starting to wonder if he has the skills to get a team to play good footy

I agree. I thought he was put in some terrible positions defensively yet came up with the tackle. Really good game from Toa IMO. He basically defended for 2 people as Maka missed nearly every single tackle
I have said this before and I think everyone we come to the same conclusion, maka is another wonder kid that will never reach the heights that has been put on him , he’s slow and his defence is poor

That game was a punish to watch.

In my opinion this was the most disappointing loss for the year. We had everything to play for, Newcastle were crap, yet our spine produced their worst performance of the year (maybe AD gets a pass mark). To think we still could have won it if not for the performance of Geyer and Makasini, though I don't blame them, that's on Benji. Gutted
I dont think AD had a great game, looked rusty and a bit tentative, esp in the second half. We need to focus more on getting through them in the middle with second phase ball...the offfload was non existent in that game. Luai very rarely got the ball and both he and AD seemed to just play in their lanes. Was a very coservative style of attack.

At the 70th minute mark, it was still 6 all. The team had a go against the Knights who will make the finals and perhaps the top 4. I am disappointed with the loss but not the effort.
Agree , but we should have had a crack for a field goal , we went up the middle at the 74 minute got close about 35/40 out and done a bomb exactly the same repeated plays , a field goal would have broken the knights spirit and we win by 1 yes we have a go but we are poor in attack and is the main reason we loose games no attack , no variation,
