What rule changes would you like to see ?

1\. STOP the clock when the ball is not in play
2\. Golden Point should change to Golden Try or just be extra-time
3\. The captain should be able to challenge 2 ref decisions per game

*Legs tackles rewarded

*Maybe to discourage the wrestle if three players - or more than two - complete a tackle the count remains static
(sudden thought & not thought thru)

***The re-start at the 20 when a kick is defused needs work,,,attacking players suddenly have to retreat and form defense line while the now attacking team can still pass the ball forward to the tap to get a quick restart….it goes against the grain of the game....needs an overhaul**

I'm with you on this one Ink. Don't think it's right the defending team should be rewarded for avoiding a raid on their line. At the very least, the defending team should be allowed to set their ten.

I wonder if the NRL realises the irony of allowing the quick tap here to speed up the game while doing nothing to stop the tackle being systematically slowed down further and further.

That's not exactly correct, a quick tap can only be taken when the player who diffuses the ball himself or picks the ball up from the dead ball line, runs back to the 20m line and taps it himself. If he passes the ball forward to a mate on the the 20m line, they have to wait until the opposition defensive line is set.

Thats true….but its not policed correctly...there is also the query in this regard about short passes and long passes, only short passes forward are allowed, apparently it can go thru several sets of hands....as long as theyre short passes, but whats a short pass and whats long.
Why it needs work

Here's something from left field

Have an extra point conversion (try)

You can take your shot for conversion , but if you miss (on purpose or not ) if your players regather and score you get an extra point (3)

Could open the game up a bit and add some interest

You been on the drink?

If you get a Try, surely it should be worth 4 points?

It would be a seven point try Watto 4 for the try itself and 3 for the second play

The attacking team would in a formation exactly like a kick off and can chase through once the conversion is attempted If it is converted 2 points If you can retrieve the ball and score another try 3 points

The reason i like it is it could be used tactically

Gees brother I don't drink every night

Reduce the bench to 2 fresh players with interchanges involving them limited to 4 for the match.

Replace under 20's with under 23's with each side allowed to have 4 over age players per week. This game is played before first grade each week and players that play at least half this game can be replacements for the NRL side. Any such player that comes on in the NRL game, the player replaced is off for good. Eg we could have replaced Heighintion against the Broncos when he broke his hand or Groat in the same game when he was KO'd. I would limit the replacements to 3 per game when added with the 4 interchanges total 7 changes per match. The replacement player usually will not be of the same standard as the person he replaces and would have already played earlier that day.

Get rid of dominant and surrender tackles. Have the ref call tackle and then count to 3 and if the ruck isn't cleared, penalise the defending side. This would almost over night remove wrestling from the ruck and would make the game a quicker and better spectacle. When teams like Melbourne play Manly I turn the game off, I dount want to wrestling and slowing down the play the ball crap.

They definately need to have a look at the use of bombs in the game, it is so bloody boring to watch a team that has no idea in attack just reef the ball into the air and hope for the best. IMO there is minimal skill involved in this and our great game is based on passing the ball in order to crack the defence.
Maybe you should have to be in your own half to put up a bomb…either that or a try that is scored from a kick THAT DOESN'T TOUCH THE GROUND should only be worth 2 points (grubber kicks are still an integral part of our game IMO).

Bombs are becoming like a cancer in the game and are really ruining it as a spectacle

Remove Dominant and Surrender classes of tackles. It only promotes wrestling. Remove this, remove the wrestling tactics and slowing of play the balls. Give refs the right to use discretion on the matter

7 interchange

Allow for teams to carry and extra 1 or 2 players on the bench, however only allow the rotation of upto 4\. This means teams could cover injuries adequately

Nomore calling players offside, just aids the dummy half to run at them the moment they hear it and also gives the forwards reasons to push the boundaries. If they are offside, penalise them if they get invovled…. simple.

5mins in the bin

**Time off for play when the ball is dead or allow for injury time**

Linesmans watch the defensive line for offsides and forwards passes from dummy half. Let them call it!

Remove benefit of the doubt and replace it with Refs Call

Yep, benefit of the doubt is a bit messy. Through the hands the attacking team is clear, but once a bomb goes up, it's not so clear which team is the attacking team.

This needs some work!

Agreed on the bombs.

Another interesting idea; Allow the defensive team to bat the ball dead from a bomb the lands (or play leaps from) within the 10m line. Either give a 20m drop out, or the defensive teams gets the feed from a scrum 10m out.

I hate bombs too. Make a try from a bomb worth less points or make a try without a kick worth say 5 …

I also hate the amount of time trainers spend on the field.
