What surprises are in store ? !

The drawn out pain over the Blair situation and the comment made by Humphries about an announcement next week make me wonder just what is in store.

An announcement that Blair has signed would be a welcome relief after the drawn out saga we have all undergone but I'm starting to get the feeling that there is more substance still to come.

I'm a fan of the atitude that its time to start to rebuild the Tigers team. The team has cronically underachieved since 2005 and it's time to bring in fresh blood.

The emergence of Woods, BMM, Groat, Begovich goes a long way to starting to change the side but its the backs where we have a couple of weak spots.

The upgrading of contracts for Lawrence and quite a few others has reduced our options but the recent goings of Payton, Gibbs and a couple of others may have allowed us to have a little dip into the market for a back. No idea who it would be but I agree with the moving on of Gibbs and possibly Fulton to help get Blair and whoever,

Fifita I think came as a result of him shopping himself around, we couldn't match the other offer and have done the honourable thing and allowed him to move on. The only plus is that Fifita plays in probably the clubs strongest position so I can live with that.

The question now we are all waiting for Humphries is "Who have you signed ? and who is going ?"

I agree with you.

This beating of chests over the departure of a couple of players (albeit one of immense potential - I stress potential) is really something else.

We can't keep everyone, welcome to the world of the salary cap. For those of you who don't agree with the salary cap cast your eye over to the English Premier League where your success depends on which billionaire you've successfully courted.

I for one think that Stephen Humphreys has done a cracking job, we have the most valuable jersey (in terms of sponsorship), the best player in the game in Benji Marshall and the Australian coach in Tim Sheens. Compare this to where the club was in the Terry Lamb years.

In a season where the Tigers have long their most potent attacking side of the field (Ellis, Tuquri and Lawrence) they've continued to eck out wins (I'd prefer to win ugly than lose pretty). That would have been unheard of a couple of seasons ago.

Times change and players, coaches and officials will come and go, that's life.

Please people try to appreciate where we are as a club and what's been achieved. Fans on this forum constantly talk about the player's having the right attitude, perhaps its time to practice what is being preached.

We can't keep everyone but I wish we would have kept Fifita.

Gibbs and Fulton are consistent performers. They are really good players but they are not key players. Fifita is a player that can win games.

Gibbs has been misused by us. I think he should be in the 2nd row and Fulton I don't think fits into the squad despite being a great player.

Fifita suits our team because he is a destructive prop forward with skill. If he goes it sucks but hey that is life.

Lets see who we get because surely we have some funds available to sign players.

The moving on of players is not to enable us to sign others, its to clean up others stuff ups.

Humpty had little to do with Marshall & Sheens…they were already here

I certainly hope releasing all these players is not just for Blair and to get under the cap.

I'm pretty sure the Tigers have the least genuine Origin/Internationals in their side. Benji and Ellis being the only 2\. There are a few fringe origin players and fringe internationals like Farah/Lawrence/Tuqiri/Galloway, but you would think teams like the Dragons/Broncos would have more trouble getting under the cap than us.

Whilst I understand the confidentiality behind all these rumoured deals, I think two things stand out to me.

1) This is a business. Things happen that you don't like in business like letting staff go. It has happened to us before, to other clubs, and will continue. The salary cap in my opinion is the best thing to have happened to the League in it's history and has strengthened the game and its position. The negative side is that your staff are constantly working for the best deal they can get for themselves, and rightly so. Sometimes the two clash and that is when you hope to have good people in charge who you can trust to make the right future decisions.

2) I think personally that 'news about all this is coming next week' is cutting it fine for me. I think the Tigers management should be doing everything in their power to keep the fans and sponsors informed. It doesn't seem to me that this is happening, but then again I don't know everything about what is happening. Perhaps in a few weeks time everything wil be sorted and fine.

The end result is this…..

I love the Tigers. I have always been a Balmain supporter and when we merged it was hard, but now I love the Magpie people just the same as the tiger people. My team is the Wests Tigers. I will never be able to support anyone else because it is just in the blood. I get frustrated, I jump up an down, I throw the remote, I turn the TV off, I scream, I laugh, I almost cry, I want to choke some players, I enjoy when we win.

Support our club and our team regardless of what is going on. Let the experts in management do their thing, let the players do their thing and as fans we HAVE to do our thing!!!

Is there a star player in the Super League that we may have signed?

I reckon there will be two signings announced, Blair and someone else.

I think Swordy just summed up what it means to be a tigers fan… wholeheartedly agree with what you've said (..but it still hurts to lose some valued members of the team).

Hope you are right, all this for Blair would reek of mismanagement, although a shake up/clean out was needed.

well apart from luke shooting wampa rats on alderean we will be without a lot of players we will have to see the jawas to see if they have any spares oo tenneee

I believe we have potentially and awesome pack with the young guys starting to stand up and be counted. With the experience of Ellis, Robbie, Keith and Chris did we really need to take on Blair. I was shattered to see the news of Fifita as I really rate him and I believe he will be sorely missed.

Our lack of depth does not show up in the forwards but in the backs. That is where we should be spending the money. We need quality out wide and a bit of mongrel. I agree games are won once the platform has been set up by a go forward pack but with the injuries we have suffered we don't posses the killer punch.

We cannot keep on relying on Benji to pull off a miracle. I would love to see one of our young guns like Fifita or Dwyer given a run out wide. The Broncos showed it can be done with Dave Taylor which gave them that extra option. Those 2 are big strong and fast enough to cope. They may also provide that starch in defence we lack.

It was only 2 seasons ago where we had such a player in Tuaki and what an impact he had on a game.
