What we should expect of any new coach

Obviously whoever is appointed as the new coach will be walking into a bit of a dysfunctional mess, but I think there's a few things we should be expecting from whoever it is:

1\. Find a halfback. Whether it is Miller, Anasta, Moltzen or trying to find someone available on the market, this needs to be a big priority. Marshall must be played at 6 in a traditional structure with a 7 that can do a bit of organising and kick us out of trouble when needed.

2\. Improve our defense. The priority should be our abysmal defense. We have not been able to tackle consistently for over a decade. Why other teams can and we can't is a mystery to me but this must be resolved. To be honest I couldn't care less about our attack at this stage, we have players that can cause problems against any team with ball in hand, but we need to be able to defend with mongrel and with a good attitude.

3\. Play players in their correct positions. Lawrence is not a five eighth. Marshall is not a halfback. Farah is not a halfback. Ayshford is not a five eighth. Fulton is not a five eighth. You get the picture. It is not hard to pick players in their correct positions, these players listed above have all been proven failures when moved out of their natural position.

That would be a good start.

And whoever we pick and play at 7 we stick with and give a fair go

Nailed everything Hybrid , well done mate ,maybe whoever gets the job should give you a job as an assistant coach

Tell you what was interesting with the Kevie interview , that Bellamy concentrates his efforts as the defensive coach

Take note

To dump underperformers to State Cup no matter who they are. i.e Blair, Marshall, Moltzen.

Use the bench correctly and carry 4 forwards on the bench. Fulton can always play in the backs if required during a game.

Break up the boys club and get players who want to bleed for Wests Tigers. Lessen Marshall's influence around the club.

Need to work hard on defence in the off season and add some mongul in the forwards (Kite, Mose from Easts)

Need structured attack (a decent half back) rather than just through the ball to Marshall and wish for the best.

We have the team and talent and juniors coming through we just need a coach to make sure they play to their potential like Hasler and Bellamy have the ability to do with their troops.

Yep, thats what i would expect. Remember the old days when we'd all be on the other forum continually questioning Why????? Fitzy at 5/8, 1/2 ….....anywhere near first grade???? thought that was all gone once he retired. But then Sheensy kept it going with the likes of Morris at 1/2 , all the above mentioned players in various positions.

Ahh i'll tell you what, if we get a coach that does the things that are so obvious to the rest of us, i don't know what we will talk about in here. Hopefully it will be victory after victory.

Develop a recruitment/tension/playing style strategy for the NRL/NYC/NSWRL teams future that is no longer than 1-2 years max. Communicate the strategy to all key Stakeholders ie Board/Players/Members/Supporters. Execute the strategy and if it doesn't work be prepared to executed, no excuses.

Lead by example with clear direction and accountability so you can demand the same from the players you are responsible for managing.

Develop a culture that epitomises what both the Wests & Balmain clubs are renowned for. Hard working, not too much fluff, honesty, down to earth people who fight for their mates and do the hard years, no short cuts

Set the goal of always being mid-field at worst during the first 3/4 of the season season so all key stakeholders don't have to suffer the extreme pressures of trying to come from way behind to make the final eight .

Release the team sheet before the street lights come on each Tuesday.

I don't know how anyone can expect much from any new coach in 2013 given
A) He's had no say in recruitment for 2013 and has effectively been left with Sheens squad

and
B) I wasn't expecting anything different for 2013 given our squad. Haven't seen anything in our recruitment that makes me think we'll improve.

All in all, i'm happy to give him a free pass in 2013 and see what he does in the recruitment department for 2014\. All i expect from him is to be a complete 180 from Sheens, i.e
Drop players that deserve to be dropped
Play guys in their correct positions
No 4 position reshuffle to replace 1 guy
No wingers on the bench
Doesn't pick his mates
etc etc etc

Make Blair put on another 5kg, play 20 minutes less and give him followers for the offload. Would go a long way to making him more effective.

We only want footballers to concentrate on what they are doing, not those that have other jobs or out to amuse or entertain themselves instead of playing football. Some of the footballers are out to have a good time instead of concentrating on their football. They must be hungry for success and want to win badly. Attitude is very important.
We want the props to be mongrels and have strength We want footballers to have upper body strength, that is strong enough to break tackles and go through the opposition defence. The current lots are not tough except Gareth, Aron or Keith and Fulton. Those not performing are not picked and send to Reserves Grade. Most other teams dominate our players, thus our team and players are not known to be strong or tough. Let a new broom sweep through the existing rank, I am not sorry the majority will have to go except a few. In fact I am not sorry the buddies are leaving the WT. They are more concern with being cliques than playing football and winning games. Cronulla can have the lot, jokers and entertainers and not good footballers as such in top grades. The players must most of all will want to win bad enough. Likewise the coach must also soley concentrate on what they are doing. He must be a real coach, not a politician and try to please everybody. He must be strong and back his own intution. :sign:

I would like to see a new direction with a different playing style. I do not know how this might work with Benji but we have been the 'entertainers' for too long with 3 out of 10 finals appearances.
