What will the biggest headline rugby league story be about

Just getting people's thoughts on what you think will be the subject of the biggest headline in the NRL in 2012

I think we will have another huge salary cap scandal where a team gets the Melbourne treatment playing for nothing in 2012 I just pray its not us 😛ray:

Either:
NSW win origin (it's coming)
OR
Quade Cooper to jump to League in 2013 (although I think this will depend on whether the Wobblies win the RWC or not)

I think clubs are going to be VERY careful about the salary cap from now on, so i doubt we'll see another Storm-like scandal.

I think the new TV rights deal will be the focus of all things off-field next year. Something along the lines of:

"NEW NRL TV DEAL SEES CHANNEL 9 LOSE THE RIGHTS, ALL GAMES LIVE WITH NO AD BREAKS AND BROADCAST IN FULL HD"

or, more realistically:

"NEW NRL TV DEAL TRUMPS WHATEVER THE AFL GOT"

I honestly dont think we are going to see a substantial deal. We dont have the right force behind selling it. Although we deserve double whatever the AFL got.

Well that will do Ink
I was thinking that Dessie and Ennis would met fall in love and decide to adopt a child but your idea is even better Ink

Daily Telegraph: Grand Final Lockout: media ban placed on Tigers in grand final week

SMH: Sydney Tiger Crazy in Decider: Interviews with all 17 Tigers players, Coaching staff, Barry O'Farrel, Benjis mum, the ball boy, strapper, some bloke from campbelltown and a bloke who used to play footy in the backyard with Chris Lawrence.

The reason the AFL is worth more to 9 is they can sell adds in more markets, depsite having similar national audiances. The NRL market is very Sydney and Brisbane orientated.

The AFL has its audiences split over more markets and can therefore generate more TV revenue and "sell" other programming in that telecast in multiple markets.

As for Fox, the highest rating programs are all NRL, however the AFL has literally dozens of programs that rate very well every week in lots of time slots, which makes the overall package more valuable.

I cant find the article where I read it, think it was BRW or the fin review, very interesting read

I know it's a bit off topic but just on the TV deal - another thing in the AFL's favour is that they literally have an ad break after every goal is scored. I can't remember where I heard it but apparently the umpires are told when to bounce the ball once the ad break is over? More ad breaks = more money for TV. The NRL could do a similar thing though. There's easily enough time between when a try is scored and the conversion - 60 seconds? Even for a dropout they can throw in a 15 second ad.

Drug scandal - good point. The last few years has definitely been about the bashings!

Which coaches do you think will get the sack/walk next year?

I reckon see ya later David Furner, Brian Smith, Shane Flanagan and Stephen Kearney (come on, it's Parramatta, they can't have a coach for any longer than 18months!). Des Hasler to be dumped mid-season after Manly lose a few in a row and is criticised he's thinking about 2013.

100% true. I was in Melbourne last week [2 weeks later than hoped :brick: but we wont go there….....] and did the MCG tour [well worth it if you down there] and they pointed out the light that the umpire has to wait for to turn on [by the TV director] before they can restart play. As the MCG guide said "you can be wondering why they havent restarted play, only to realise the light hasnt been shone. Very frustrating"

_-An Exclusive look into the undefeated season of the Wests Tigers and how they did it_

There will be no fights in any clubs no bad publicity from any of the clubs or the police and no assaults on girlfriends or families.

In other words a totally CLEAN year.
