What year did you start to support Wests Tigers?

I had to laugh at myself !
You loved it TT !

Seriously though , Balmain since 84 , can't remember the merge (sort of)….lol , too wasted !
Around about 03 I became a die hard supporter again !!

Back in the mid 70's I was watching a game with a mate (rabid eels supporter) who was trying to indoctrinate me as an eel. I knew nothing about the game. Just to be contradictory I chose to support the opponent of the day Balmain Tigers. I loved the game, took an interest and followed them on and off after that.
In the mid-late 80's I started following them more seriously. I watched the 89 Grand final in a loungeroom full of Raiders supporters about two blocks down from the Queanbeyan Leagues club.
In the early 90's I moved to a remote station in the NT. No coverage of NRL at all and didn't bother owning a TV, so lost track. In 2006 I was talking on the phone to a mate (who was bragging about a recent Bulldogs win) and asked him how Balmain was going. He told me they didn't exist anymore, had merged with Wests & were now the Wests Tigers. Not long after that I moved into town and bought a TV. Go Wests Tigers!

From day one. Who would of thought putting 2 crap mismanaged penny less teams together they would become 1 crap mismanaged penny less team(2005 excluded).but i won't follow anyone else. :sign:

I have been following the Magpies/Tigers since around 1959 (can’t remember exactly). I was about 9 when my father started taking me to matches.

I moved to Sydney with my family from Ayr in North Queensland. My dad was mates with Kel O’Shea and the whole O’Shea family in Ayr. When we moved to Sydney, Kel was playing for Australia in the second-row with Norm Provan.

We lived not far from Pratten Park, so naturally we went to see Kel play for the Magpies.

It’s a pity Kel didn’t play for Saints or Easts or one of the other glamour teams when he moved to Sydney. I would have enjoyed seeing my team win many more premierships. (One premiership since 1959 is pretty slim pickings.)

Oh well, nothing I can do about now – the Wests Tigers are in my blood.

Merger since the outset, and Balmain from the late 70s.

Always liked Wests players though as well for some reason in my footy card collecting.

Late to this thread…
Footy was always around growing up.

Never really supported a team.
Liked a few, liked the sport.
Got really into it as a fan in 2006...

Liked Balmain back in the days....
Grew to love WESTS TIGERS.

:supporter: I migrated from UK in march 1982\. I saw Balmain play Penrith in the June Tigers won. It was ironic because there black n gold strip was same colour as the soccer team I followed in UK ie Wolverhampton/Wolves. That was the reason I settled on Weststigers. Now it's all about love and frustration I just can't do without it. The black gold n white is in the blood. Tattooed on the inside.
