Where does Sheens rank Brown ??

I don’t think many people realise how important a good utility back is, someone who may not be the best at the club in any one position but is very reliable and can cover the 1-5 positions in case of injuries to your regular starting 17 without greatly weakening the side too much, I think Mitch has been invaluable in that role in his time at the club and is a role that is undervalued greatly by many.

Couldn't agree more - which makes you wonder why we bought Joel Reddy to to basically the same thing?

when you have a salary cap,you have to have a player like brown in your squad.
it really does suck for the player, but is great for the club.

with lote out i would prefer brown on the wing and utai on the bench.

This love affair with Brown is somewhat funny… Yes the bloke seems a really nice guy and gives his best, but so do some of the Cheer Girls!

Brown is handy on the Wing, and is solid under a highball, but he has little to no creativity. I'd be very suprised if he is being considered at Fullback.

Mitch is one of those guys who is handy to call when you have injuries, and this would be why he is still apart of our Top 25 Squad. Other clubs might be interested, but they wouldnt be looking at Brown in the starting 13 as he simply doesnt have that X Appeal.

I'm glad he is in our squad, as I know he wont let us down when called upon!

good post.

Unfortunately Browns in a postion where he can have a blinder and be dropped next game, or have an absolute shocker and still get picked, because he's become the clubs fill in guy and his position all seems to depend on injuries to others. It leaves us confused about him and I can only wonder what he must think of it all.

The thing i like about Brown is wherever you play him he gives his best, if Moltzen is half i would go with Brown @ fullback for the first game of the year, experience counts.

I think he'll be Sheens' bench back. He can slot in anywhere 1-5 and do a solid job. He's the type of player who won't win you a game, but won't lose you one. I do like having him in the squad, and he's a very good depth player, considering we still have plenty of game breakers if he has to replace someone, but we have other players in his positions that can do more damage.

Do you know something about the cheer girls we don't Watto :astonished: :roll

I love Brown to bits because he is as solid as uluru but considering how attack minded sheens likes his teams that portion of his game counts against him. I personally think he would fit in better on the wing for us as he is solid, returns reasonably well, kicks goals and can finish. It takes the "creative decision making" element of picking which side to support on / burst through on a farah/benji short ball out of the equation.

An NRL team consists of 25 players, not 17 players. Ask any coach? In fact, the majority of teams in the NRL will use thirty players on average each year due to injury, form and representative commitments.etc. I think players, including Mitch Brown understand the workings of a football club. The way Mitch conducts himself on and off the field, displays that he is a contented and dedicated member of the WT's organization. Therefore, to answer the question, Mr Sheens rates Mitch Brown very highly. This has been reinforced by Mitch having his contract extended for this year. The bigger question is, what is Mitch's future beyond this year?

The role of fullback has changed considerably. The role of the fullback is now similar to having an extra 5/8 in attack. Catching, running, defending I have all tha faith in the world in Mitch Brown. But he lacks creativity and ball playing abilities that are possessed by other fullbacks. For me I'd have Brown on the wing any day of the week ahead of Utai and an underdone Tuqiri.
I think Watto summed it up perfectly.

I like Mitch Brown. He and Lui were our strongest performances in the final series of 2010.
Brown was safe as a house and was starting to inject himself in attack. He seems a real confidence player. He would be my number 1 for round one thought I have not seen Tedesco.

I am a little confused at where we are with Mitch Brown

Don't get me wrong James Tedesco is the future of the Tigers as fas as fullback in concerned

But what position does Sheens see as Brown's best , Winger ,centre or fullback

And if he sees him as mainly a winger , where in line is he assuming that Ryan and Tuqiri are the starters (when fit) then we have Utai ,Brown ,Grant, Meaney and the new NYC Fijian winger

Centres pick themselves with Lawrence and Ayshford then we have Meaney ,Simona,Utai and Brown

So where does leave Brown Do you think he will see much top grade ??

(Sorry forgot to add I think Reddy will be a bench back \utility)

It looks to me that Sheens rates Brown in the State Cup team happy and will probably call on him if we have a bad run of injuries or Brown shows form the catches sheen's eye.

The way things are panning out re our playing strength and finding p0laces for people, I wouldn't be surprised if Fultz ends up falling into the category you are describing Pratten Park.

Sheens is quoted on NRL.com as saying Brown will play against the Roosters and I think will atleast start the year in the No.1

looks like tedesco could start at 1 in round 1 after the weekend. i hope he keeps going well.

i really like brown and agree that although he is not the first player you would choose, i am always very happy to see him in the 17\. i agree with other posters that the team needs a bit of a safe, possibly 'unattractive' player like brown to fill in at any of the backline; which he has always done very well imo.

i really like him and although he looks to me like a great proposition for other clubs given he is likely to get less opportunity at the tiges than he would like, but i really hope we can stick with him. the club stuck with john morris for a long while and i was also happy with that. i think brown is well worth keeping.

Sheens doesn't like him. He didn't even get named it the 18 for this weekend. Unless he is missing a leg and has been omitted due to injury, brown could have a long season wait for his chance for a game
